i am with you, unless i win loads of cash at the casino tonight and then i will give up flying for reward and revert to being a ppl.....:O

but seriously, not being funny, i have worked my way up from the bottom of general aviation over 4 years, now flying command on the beech 1900d, am a couple of thousand hours wiser and i feel that i have passed the stage where we should be paying for ratings/jobs.

i just want to work for someone without having to buy myself into a job....and for all of you who call it 'advanced training', you can dress it up in what ever title you want, it is paying for a job and is not right.

it is only happening because low time pilots in the uk all want to start in a boeing or airbus....how about serving a bit of an apprenticeship in general aviation, charter, contract flying and getting some actual hands on experience.
may even learn how to make some decisions for ones self, as opposed to being told what to do for the next how-ever-many years it takes to advance to the left seat.

if everyone went to the airlines with between 1000-2000 hours i reckon they would gladly rate people with a time bond, ie. you are bonded for 3 years or so and then you have paid off your rating.

would not have these fools paying for 100 hours line experience, they would already have that, and have been paid for it!

Not sure what you mean hangar..(sorry forgotten name) exactly but I fully agree with the guy who posted b4 me (sorry forgotten name aswell!)

But how can anyone stop these people who are ruining our future from paying for ratings etc? There's always going to be someone who's gonna pimp themselves to get experience. Is there no way it could be banned?!!! I wish, apparantly talks at BALPA going on about all this though, hopefully they make it illegal!

This thread seems to be steering toward the TR debate so Ill leave it now for that other thread "I will not pay for a type rating".

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought on the CTC ATP scheme you paid £6000 for the AQC which was their version of the MCC, then the airline picked up the bill for the type rating?

Big - the CTC £6000 jobbie is an MCC with what amounts to a JOT course added. It is the last stage of the ATP scheme. If you are successfull you go into the hold pool for a TR with an airline. If you get selected from the pool the airline pays for your type rating and you work for them for six months BUT YOU DO NOT RECEIVE ANY SALARY. CTC do encourage the airline to pay any expenses etc and a small amount of subsistence. At the end of the sixth months you may or may not be kept on by the airline.

I for one echo earlier thoughts - the cat may well be ought of the bag when it comes to paying for type ratings and the like. At the moment I feel there are enough guys willing & able to pay for TR's to fill the required seats. When there are no longer enough it will be a different game.......

Personally I think Easy have got it pretty much right with their Type Rating Sponsorship Scheme.

Finally - I am trying to sort out an MCC. It is hard to find a company that does a normal MCC these days it seems. Everywhere it is "we dont do MCC but we do a course (twice the cost) where you get MCC / JOT / Advanced handling etc".

I was under the impression that CTC paid an £1000 allowance a month (which was tax free due to the fact that is was an allowance) whilst you were undertaking line training with the relevant airline?

Hi Guys,

I must agree with the abolishing of making this a money man's commodity.
Having just started my CPL the prospect of what is ahead post MCC frightens me.
I feel very strongly about this paying for type rating rubish, BALPA should be and hopefully are, in talks to try and get a fairer deal for the folk who are not so plush to find another 25000k++ on top of their already £50000 spent just so they can earn a poor salary and give the likes of certain 'providers' a cash machine income.

It must be said, unless all of those who are paying for type ratings and are willing to work for lousy terms and conditions stop doing so, the companies running such schemes will consistently keep quid's in, thus the whole thing stays in a downturn and we don't ever see an improvement.
Bus drivers would not expect such a poor show guys, lets not let aviation descend any further into the mess it's in.

Sorry, I'm not with you.

I am waiting to do a type-rating on the A380 as I know there are very few people with this type on their licence.
