Can anybody recommend some interesting / amusing / worth visiting LL turning points or tgts - along the lines of the 'P1ss Off Biggles' roof etc. Grids, photos, and or details would be appreciated.

Incidentally, is that still around or was it removed - any pics?

When I was driving Vulcans (yes, I know, pull up a sand bag...), there was a euphemistically titled 'Government Radio Station' in a certain UK location which made a grand visual IP for a number of targets in that part of the world. So we regularly thundered overhead at low level, knowing that the spies weren't going to make any complaints.....:E

Saw a tatto on a chick (if that is what you would call it!!) that said 'NAVY'. Maybe you could fly along the beach at low level, on a warm day, and see it in the sun, against a bright white back-drop. Or is that too much information..

Tellytubby land is a good Nav point. Yes there really is a telly tubby land somewhere. Sadly I have lost the grid for it and I cannot for the life of me remember where it is other than somewhere between Gloucester and Stratford. Someone here will know though!

In the good old cold war days the Hawk SAM sites were not to be map marked and therefore could not be avoids. Once flying with a new Wg Cdr, I mentioned a site within 1nm of track. He wazzed it like no-one else dare, and that was top fun. Initials MT should he frequent these parts, or anybody else know of him. He is sufficiently far up the chain not to give a poo nowadays.

Ten feet over the Mohne between the towers having just decended in from Soest via the route once taken by our forfathers was very memorable. Made me appreciate what a ball ache of a task is was all those years ago for the time spent on the bomb run in level flight was only a few seconds.

Well, any passing fast jet is very welcome to wazz my house and amateur radio antenna installation at SJ 328150 (not far from the old VLF site at Criggion, before they demolished it last year). You could always pretend it's a secret radar or SAM site or something. However, I suspect the fact that we're in LFA 9 might be a show-stopper. Can other users transit a DUA?

We certainly see a hell of a lot fewer fast jets than we used to; all that passes this way nowadays is Shawbury rotary stuff. Shame. Bring back the A-10 pairs that used to bomb the hell out of our place (sigh).

Cheers guys, most of you are on the same wavelength as me but WorkingHard, your attitude confuses me. Hormone imbalance, mate? You won't be so keen to fire small arms at rotary when you get some lead laser back! Only joking. Noise complaints and PNSS interviews are not good for our careers and you clearly have no idea of the effort that goes into minimising the area covered by the 8000hp sound of freedom. We can't draw a straight line more than 5nm long in our LFA because of avoids. BTW, what's the grid of your house?

The old Big Brother house in the Lea Valley was one such place - I believe 'army' helicopters even made the final cut.

are you chaps able to give us a fly past at manchester airport or are those big built up areas a no-no? had a lovely display by the reds last year. needs to be matched/beaten.

Tellytubby land was up near Stratford-on Avon, about 5 miles from Wellesbourne Mountford a/f, but is gone now, all that's left is a suspiciously round pond.
Maybe they got fed up of the noise and moved it somewhere else!

Something fast flew over my house last night just after 11pm. It sounded like it was heading west to east and going very fast indeed. Shortly after it had gone past, I could hear the rumble of the engine in the distance then after a few seconds I heard a sort of 'whoosh' that sounded like the plane was going up, I don't know, but it reminded me of some time ago I watched a Hunter at a display and as he went up in a loop, the same engine type sound occured. Not having a clue about fast jets, I was just wondering how this noise is made or what the plane was doing to make it sound like that. Maybe he was just accelerating away, as I say I don't know, but wouldn't mind knowing what makes this noise sometimes.
