How would the 737-600 go operating regional routes for Virgin?
You could operate into new centres such as Tamworth, Devonport or new city pairings out of Avalon (novel idea!) with around 100 seats. This would also keep the single aircraft type across the board.

Heard on the grapevine, a rumour no less that they have been in talks with AirAsia. Makes a bit of sense cause Jetstar are looking at Singapore.

What exactly does anyone mean by "regional" anyway?

Virgin already serves Mackay, Coffs Harbour, Sunshine Coast, Broome, Hervey Bay, Rockhampton, Ballina and Launceston.

Maybe they could use the 736 on these thin routes instead of the larger aircraft they currently use.
These small ports, such as Coffs, Ballina, Hervey Bay, Proserpine etc are all one flight a day at the moment.
If they used the -600 they could go to double daily - one early and one late and increase the traffic that way. Other small ports, like Launceston, could increase frequency using the smaller jet.

Mr Boeing doesn't seem to have sold many -600's though. Is it perhaps a tad heavy?
