Birmingham International Airport (BIA) has become the first airport in Europe to invest in a sophisticated, new noise and track keeping system known as ANOMS 8. The new system, which becomes operational in October, will greatly enhance BIA’s ability to effectively manage noise.

The introduction of ANOMS 8 is just one of the subjects covered in the Airport’s annual Environment and Community report published today and entitled “Building Relationships”. The report sets out how BIA is working with its community partners in key areas including Noise and Track Keeping, Air Quality, Energy Management and Community Involvement and Investment.

Interestingly, in the same press release:

"An increase of 34% in the number of air passengers using rail to access the Airport during the first year of the Air Rail Link operation."

Isn't it time CVT pressed forward to get a proper bus link, instead of advising passengers to take the local bus to Baginton, and then wait for the car park shuttle? If BHX can achieve a notable increase in public transport use by re-instating this link to the terminal, what might GLA and EDI be able to achieve by building their rail links?

The railway company can't be that impressed by this figure, as they're slashing the number of trains to the airport (And between Coventry and Brum).

Surely the problem with CVT is that until the future of the airport is secure (I.e They get a new terminal) then it's little point making any investment into bus links.

There has been talk that the airport may be included in the city's proposed Mass Rapid Transport System.

Arbottle,

I don't think it is "the railway company" as such, but more the curtailment of Silverlink services to terminate at Northampton, rather than to continue into Birmingham. AFAIK, these are being replaced by a Central Trains service which now continues through to Rugby & Northampton.

I'm not sure what happened to the 4 Virgin trains per hour which were promised a while back, and still can't work out which service is being cut between Cov & Brum - local press is not clear about it - were there 2 Silverlinks / hour at peak times?

For mid October:

Cov to Brum

:15& :45 - Virgin WC
:23 - Virgin XC
:56, :26 & :37 - Central (one replaces Silverlink)

Yes, of course CVT needs to sort the terminal out, but it would have been a better PR exercise if they had a bus going there first - although they argue that is up to CENTRO/ the bus companies, not them.
