Pacific Blue Expands Trans-Tasman Routes;Strong Demand

WELLINGTON (Dow Jones)--Discount airline Pacific Blue Airlines Ltd. said Monday it will add two new trans-Tasman routes to its existing schedule to meet growing demand from both Australia and New Zealand.

Pacific Blue, wholly-owned by Virgin Blue Holdings Ltd. (VBA.AU), said in a statement the new services will fly twice a week between Christchurch and the Gold Coast, and between Wellington and Brisbane.

The services will start in November, and the airline said it may increase the frequency of the flights if demand grows.

Pacific Blue's head of strategy and communications David Huttner said in the statement statistics show Queensland is one of the most popular international holiday destinations for New Zealanders, while a growing number of Queenslanders are now seeing New Zealand as an attractive and convenient holiday option.

Pacific Blue already operates services between Christchurch and Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, as well as between Wellington and Sydney.
