View Full Version : What's the deal at Eagle

What is happening at Eagle? Heard through the grapevine that a few quite experienced pilots are leaving? Didn't they just have interviews a few weeks ago? Heard they played hard to employ again. Only taking a few? Why? I see Vincents are doing a lot of flying for them. Can't they pilot their own planes? Pick me... pick me... I'll come and fly for you if you want. Don't quite have a 100 hours multi but I should at least have an interview soon. Come on Eagle give me a ring.........please:)

Eagle are hiring to replace pilot turn over - hav'nt you heard - AirNZ, Cathay, Mt Cook, Brunei and Air Feight to name a few all wan't Eagle pilots! Air NZ (national & international) is possibly looking for 120 pilots - where do they get them from? well at least some from Eagle!
I would'nt moan about the selection process as it works for the most part - their pilots are sought after. Don't forget that Eagle aircraft are 100% owned and operated by AirNZ - they have a vested interest in ensuring the guy in the driving seat knows what he is doing.
Eagle as well as the rest of the group is doing well - high load factors etc. Good on them for sharing it around and calling on Vincent to help move some!

Want eagle pilots !
Please.
More likely they are sick of being thrashed and taken for a ride and decided to go to greener pastures.

You sure you're not a "One-Eyed Cantab"?

Just wondering... any truth to what I was told by the Eagle HO phone operator that they only use StaffCV?

I've got 100+ m/e with some PA31 thrown in, ATPLs (Australian admittedly - don't panic, I am a Kiwi), a bit short on the TT though. Unless it has changed, this site won't let you apply unless you have the listed minimums.

Hey - I just want to get on their radar. The woman on the phone said they only accept applications on StaffCV. Surely there must be someone in there who will at least read my CV if I send it in the good old snail mail way?!? Or maybe I'll have to jump on a Freedom flight and hand deliver it?

I think some obviously are'nt living in the real world! - Eagle has always had good pilot turn over and probably always will.
Eagle seems to employ pilots that are motivated and not carrying a chip on their shoulder, hence they are likely to move on. If you think somebody is going to pay you big bucks when only 19 tickets are providing the income think again! Go get a 1900 - employ some pilots - pay them big money and see how long you can last!

Whats your definition of thashed Plas Teek? - A poor 1900 pilot earning enough to fall in to the high income bracket of most towns they are based, averaging less than 8hrs work a day and home most nights. OR a heavy jet driver away 6 - 10 days at a time, earning more but spending it just to make up for the loss of lifestile, comuting large distances to and from work?
Look - decide what you want out of aviation - face reality - many jet drivers are happy with their lot - good on them - many turbo prop divers are likewise happy! decide what you want and stop bagging those that have.

Pete G
Eagle use staff CV for all pilot applications - it is a lean company, there isn't a dedicated pilot recruitment person/team. Again - hate to say it but the reality is - 19 seats don't pay for extra staff to handle papper applications.
Word is that they have 60 -70 people with over 1000hrsTT and 150hrs multy. But don't dispair most are likely to see an interview this year!

Its a good time to apply - progress through to command is likely to be around 18months, get your ATPLs done and keep updating.

HI,
This is all sounding very promising!! Heard a rumour that AirNelson and Origin were interviewing again, does that mean there will be another round of Eagle interviews after the september ones?

I'm not sure where Plas Teek was coming from, but the guys I have talked too (maybe a bit ago) said they were working hard. (possibly past tense)
Not so long ago... wasn't leave cancelled..??
Guys couldn't get leave...?
Maybe with the new influx this has changed? I hope so. Nsn went through a similar thing. And I bet so to with Origin.

I don't think he was BAGGING them. And if it's who I think it is, he knows quite a few of them.

Just the holier than thou alttitude that you portrayed as opposed to the fact that... Maybe SOME people want to get out of Eagle.... and as such, are. Simply by the fact that they are young, keen and want to get out and earn some more $$ while they can, doesn't equate to being "Wanted" or maybe "Head Hunted".

Nelson & Origin also has a high turnover, and now so is Mt Cook (and not all to jets!) but I don't think you could say their pilots are sought after
More like supply and demand.
The current boss of Nsn said something similar. Funnily enuf, it was the Eagle pilots who laughed the loudest!

Eagle seems to employ pilots that are motivated and not carrying a chip on their shoulderPeople in glass houses...
Now have a re-read.
This post did not bag Eagle.
This post did not bag Eagle Pilots.
But I don't think you can advertise that "If you come to Eagle you'll get "snapped up" by another Airline" which is similar to what you were saying.
I would be nice though.:ok:

Just locating an Iraqi size bunker and my flak jacket!:D

Oh and it's 100 pilots from June '04 to Dec '05.
With 'possibly' 80 each year for the following two years.

INCOMING.............................................BOOM.:D :D

It just seems like another thread of tactical warfare in the EAG pilots Vs everybody else.

I have said it many times before....................Turnover in EAG is high and time to command is low. That is what most pilots are after.

All companies in NZ have problems with rostering leave ect and that is due to companies not having enough staff on the books.

Reasonable points CT7 - perhaps bagging was a bit strong. You are correct most airlines have those that would rather be else where - Eagle is no exception. However there has indeed been a degree of headhunting going on but this is on a limited scale. I was trying to make the point that those leaving for the most part are leaving to advance their carreer in aviation not because Eagle is a bad place to work.

Veeneee - word is interviews Oct, Nov and probably Dec

Now is a good time to have your applications up to date with any of the link airlines if that is your thing. Plenty of pilots moving on driving recruitment - perhaps they are all overworked!???

ok so tell me this. Eagle uses staffcv, now is this used to stop them getting CVs from the pimply faced kids that have all the qualifications but not the requirements? Surely if you sent a hard copy someone would see it. I am sure that there are a few people out there who don't quite meet the requirments that would make fine pilots. As for 60-70 pilots on their books that have 1000hrs+ and 150multi+ I find this very dificult to believe. There just doesn't seem to be enough light twins operating in NZ for there to be this many pilots with this sort of time. Unless pilots from other airlines are applying :ok:

Shovel,

Believe it or not people from other countries do apply:p

On the serious side I can see where you are coming from while staffcv isn't all that great for the pilot because you have to pay it is good for the company and admin.

It also never hurts to just walk in with your cv and say hello occassionally (if you live close) and get to know them. Like wise a phone call is also a good thing just to show an interest.

I'd be a little bit careful about trying to get somebody to read your CV via mail/hand delivery. They use StaffCV for a reason - the reason being they don't want to spend their time reading CV's or talking to wannabes. That's why they farm it out.

You may be lucky and catch somebody who is open and friendly and is happy to chat, but you might also end up p!ssing somebody off, which won't help your chances.

I say this as somebody who who has been involved in pilot selection for a regional carrier in the UK. In that airline, anybody who didn't go through the correct channels, or tried to subvert the process, had their CV binned.

There are plenty of (usually older) folk about with lots of multi, some Kiwis who have been overseas (lots of those now), some who used to do charter and want back in, etc.

Finally, don't try too hard to find the logic in recruitment, as often there isn't much of that about. I remember well, in the UK, getting a call from the boss upstairs - they had got the funding they needed to expand, so we were told to get 25 pilots on a groundschool by the following Monday. We got out the "qualified" folder, started at the top (ie the most recent), and the first twenty five people that agreed to be there the following monday got the jobs... and that is a completely true story. From Cherokee to jet in the blink of an eye...

HeadHunted, Yup...Ah Huh.....mmmhimmm
Just like the two Mt Cook guys (+ others) who got in in Jul.
And the 8 pilots who got accepted in Aug...
And hopefully the 8 next week....
All "HeadHunted".

Why would you get "headhunted" to be an F/O or S/O??

Tractor - Crikey dude calm down, think about Marg Thatcher naked on a cold night, you sound like you had been about too shoot after your first post, I doubt eagle pilots are in demand more than any other outfits, there is a general shortage. Sure Maybe eagle pilots are particually in demand? or maybe the pilots are sick of being based in the boon-docks or driving an ugly aircraft? or may'be it's the same reason that every single regional in nz are having their ranks plundered...Because jets are big, cool and pay better than regionals.

Many people wonder why eagle get alot stick, alot of it i beleive comes down to a vocal percentage of eagle staff (of which im guessing you are included in) spend their time proclaiming their kack dont stink to anybody who is within ear-shot. "Best of the best with honours..sir"

Every company has people with different (shall we say) attitudes. EAG is no different to NSN or COOK or ORG you all have them as well.

EAG pilots on this forum have just choosen not to label you all by the few that are different in your companies.

Grow up chaps.

If life hasnt tought you by now that we are all different and not everybody agrees, you still have alot of living to do.

I sometimes wonder that if we stopped worrying about what every other bastard is doing and got on with the farking job, we would all be a lot happier.

I get really tired of hearing about this "holier than thou" bulls..t. It is highly likely that we will all end up working TOGETHER one day flying some big jet across the ocean.

I for one hope it is not with one of you drivers who think that you get "headhunted" for every single position you could ever desire. I couldn't think of anything worse than sitting next to you for 12 hours listening to you dribble on about how good you are.

Headhunted? Good grief. This industry is all about desperation. Airlines start hiring when they all sit around the boardroom table and say "Christ, we need more pilots." Then they pull out the CVs. Not the other way around.

Instead of concentrating on stepping on the next guy, let's get one with it, and direct all that FIGJAM energy into making lots of money and spending it on flash boats...

...and SS Commodores to tow them with.

They must have been going for the prize for the most aerodynamic surfaces on a single airframe.

The 1900 book makes much of the benefits to CG range, lack of requirement for a stick shake/push system, etc. Strangely, it doesn't talk much about drag, icing, etc...

But then that is what happens when you take a small, executive aircraft and try and make an airliner out of it...

I'm not one to spread rumors but ............ was told the other day that the head CFI at eagle aerosexual club was in a meeting looking at the next possible commands ect and they only got down to around number ten on the list of co's until they ran out of option's the rest either don't have the time on type atp's ect and that they have been ringing back people that have since left offering direct entry commands...............now that's classy

ZK-NSN - I agree, taking the piss is excellent fun, but some of these tossers take it a bit more seriously than that. We all take the piss, but it's generally all in good fun with a few beers.

It just seems to me that some people think bad mouthing people/operators is the only way to get ahead.

I can take the piss with the best of them (and be on the receiving end too, no problem) but some people take it a bit far.

Anyway, enough of all that rubbish.

I agree - the 1900 is definately an ugly plane. Question is, is it the ugliest plane on earth or just ONE of the ugliest?

And also, would the damn thing still fly if all that additional aerodynamic crap fell off?

Really fun to fly - That will soon wear off. Soon you will be bored out of your tree sitting their staring at the DME wishing it would count down faster.

More power, more advanced systems = more boring!

If you haven't worked it out yet then let me tell you. Its all about money. Especially important is the effort to pay ratio. Flying max hours each month on the same sectors with no autopilot for Eagle pay does not rate highly.

Buy a job with a B737 rating. Take on $30,000 debt that will compound with interest so when you retire you will be $250,000 worse off than the guy that didn't pay.

The people operating these aircraft must be laughing all the way to the bank. Air NZ and Qantas rolling in cash while the new hire pilots pay for their own training. Get a job at Air NZ and start training on cleaning wages.

Its all okay bro as I flying that big one now eh!

MOR
15th Sep 2004, 14:21
They are laughing all the way to the bank - not because they have fleeced the pilots so effectively - but because the pilots are stupid enough to take the rogering that they have just received.

Of course this will continue as long as desperate, low-hour airline wannabes are prepared to bend over... :yuk:
