logging SO time

Can anyone explain the logistics of not being able to log the SO time in your log book?
Is it because you're not type rated?

any explanation would be appreciated.

I guess you could still log the time in the book under the miscellaneous column to keep track of your experiences, although I doubt it would count towards a higher licence or recency requirements.
