View Full Version : RAF Cottesmore - September 2nd

Not in the military, merely a camera toting enthusiast, but I spent a glorious day at RAF Cottesmore today - action was non stop. Loads going on - all sorts of things happening at once, and I even had my hat blown off by a Harrier!

Afew pics - any Harrier pilots here? And can anyone shed any light on the presence of the Jet Provost (G-PROV)?

Hi Daniel...

G-PROV is a privately owned JP based at North Weald - see www.swordsaviation.co.uk

We flew it up there for a meeting yesterday... Presume that was you by the fence we waved at - seemed you were about to be processed by some large agricultural machine <G>

Thanks for that NoD - You'll have got home to Essex much quicker than we did! :p

Yep - that was me (and my Dad) by the Fence. Might have a photo of you waving - I'll take a look and post it if I do. :)

Nice photos. I am still learning about digital and would like to know if your photos are JPEGs and what % of optimization do you have. I have quite a few nice photos from the old days and would at times like to show them on PPRuNE. What Web Site do you put them on. Grateful for any advice.

Steve,

if you right click on one of the pictures and then click on Properties it gives you quite a lot of info including type of image and source.

All were shot in Jpeg fine on a D30, then run through photos shop (resizing, cropping where needed, sharpening and a tweak in levels). Saved as JPEG quality 10 in Photoshop.

Do we really want loads of spotters' picks on this forum? Perhaps a message with a link to elsewhere would be appropriate?

Regie

If the guy wants to put some well taken pics on here, I personally am fine with it.
It doesnt say anywhere in the small print - No spotters does it?!!

If you dont want to look at them bog off and moan on another thread that is reeeeeeeeally interesting.

Nice pics Daniel

Way to go Fox!

Regie mental sounds like a real stuffed shirt. Probably flies Apache's or some such.

Bet if he'd said he was Sqn Ldr Arthur Ninch DFC and Bar you'd have said "Well shot, Sir, can I buy you a drink?"

Remember we most of us were spotters when we were kids, otherwise we'd not have been interested in getting in the beasts.

Outstanding shots, great work!

Any chance you could spill the beans on what kit you're using?

Thanks for the kind words. I just thought it might be nice to post here incase any of the pilots happened to see themselves flying their jet and might like a photo.

Would like to go to Yeovilton, but it's a long old way from Essex. Personally prefer the GR.7s and T.10s - would like to see a T.8 though!

Camera is a Canon EOS D30, with a 75-300mm lens. Plenty more photos available to anyone who might be interested.

Daniel, please re-size your pics to something around 640x480 or 700x? but not 800. They outsize the page and the wording disappears. Thanks.

Great pictures Daniel! To have pictures like this shared was one of the reasons behind my ill fated attempt of having a 'Military Gallery' (not of aircrew as was initially perceived that is!).

ppf :ok:

Daniel, if you do make it down to Yeovilton, try the RWY27 threshold. You'll be sure to have your hat blown off here too when the SHARS come into hover. The poor sheep must be deaf as they don't even notice, just mind the crap!
