View Full Version : Recording CD- CD

A couple of months ago, I bought an LG GDR- 8161 8/4x DVD recorder drive for my computer, replacing my Plextor CD recorder. I've had no problems recording DVD- DVD with the new LG. It records perfectly in DVD mode.

However, I've now gone through goodness knows how many recordable CDs, trying to copy from CD to CD. I have both Easy CD Creator v5, and Nero, both of which have given rock solid recording with my Plextor recorder. Easy CD Creator doesn't even recognise that a recordable disc is in the LG drive. Nero does, but reports an error recording at the end of the process. I've tried recording at slower and faster speeds- no difference!

I've even tried uninstalling ECDC v5, and replacing it with my older version- still doesn't recognise it!

Any thoughts, gentlemen?

erm you did say LG GDR- 8161 because according to there site that is just a dvd rom

http://www.lge.co.uk/mod_perl/go.pl/site/products.htm?product_uid=2537&category_uid=

is it a combi drive or just a DVD writer?

It does mention data transfer to CDRW in these specs.

Besides, I've just read the specs that came with it- definitely CD ROM!

Tosh,

So how did you get a DVD-ROM to:

recording DVD- DVD with the new LG

It does not burn DVDs.

Take Care,

Richard

Don't know the technicalities- the drive I purchased is advertised as a CD/ DVD burner. I can record plus or minus format DVDs from original DVDs (also into DVD RAM, although I haven't tried that yet).

But, as described above, so far, absolutely no success in recording CD- CD. And that is my problem!

Done a search and the LG GDR 8161 is not a DVD writer. Have you got the product number correct??

If you look at the Nero Drives supported (http://www.ahead.de/en/632012038142166.php?manu=LG+%2F+Goldstar&lang=en) it does not list this drive.

Tosh,

I was just trying to understand what you said above. From what I read, you have already successfully burned DVDs but have not been able to burn CDs.

Am I correct in this assumption or have you not been able to burn anything, whether it were a CD or a DVD?

Take Care,

Richard

P.S. Look on top of the Unit and give us the model number you see there.

My apologies to everybody- spannersatcx, you are quite right. In my haste to post this query, I picked up the manual for my original, read only, DVD/ CD drive- the LG GDR- 8161, which is still in the computer, carrying the discs that I want to copy from. In fact, the one that I have just purchased, and having problems with, is the recordable DVD/CD drive- LG GSA-4082B.

However, my problem is the same- Easy CD Creator doesn't even recognise that a recordable blank disc is in the recordable LG drive. Nero does, but reports an error recording at the end of the recording process.

Richard, you are correct- I have successfully burned DVD to DVD, but I have not been able to burn audio CDs with the new drive.

Computer stats- Win 2000, Athlon 2000, 512 mb RAM

Tosh,

Have you tried using WMP9 to burn an Audio CD? (It will convert MP3s to the proper format so the CD can be used in any CD Player.) Just make sure you use CD-R's and not CD-RW's. (Not all CD Players will accept CD-RW's.)

Take Care,

Richard

Have you tried the latest drivers/firmware? Updated ECDC 5?

LG GSA-4082B firmware (http://us.lgservice.com/gcsc/b2c/hpi/main)

Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 updates (http://www.roxio.com/en/support/ecdc/software_updatesv5.jhtml)

I seem to be out of luck with the firmware upgrade site- it reports
that " We are sorry that this page is not availible right now" !
