Sydney plane passengers evacuated
August 26, 2004

PASSENGERS and crew on a flight arriving at Sydney Airport tonight were evacuated after a potentially hazardous substance was found on the plane.

A spokesman for Airservices Australia said 151 people, including six crew members, were evacuated from the plane, which had flown in from Melbourne around 6.30pm (AEST).

"An unknown substance was found on board the aircraft," he said.

"NSW Fire Brigade Hazmat teams are in attendance and investigating the substance, as are specialists from NSW Police as a precaution.

"It's being treated as a hazardous material alert."

The spokesman confirmed that the Boeing 737 was a Virgin Blue flight.

Airservices Australia initially investigated the incident before calling police and the fire brigades.

The spokesman could not say where the substance was located in the plane.

The passengers and crew were evacuated as a precaution and nobody required medical treatment, he said.

Channel 10 newsbreak at 2030 showed the aircraft on the bay with stairs in position... perhaps a precautionary disembarkation? No use of slides etc, so apparently not a full evacuation...

Powder found on flight 'no risk'

26aug04
WHITE powder found in the bathroom of a Virgin Blue plane which sparked a security alert at Sydney Airport tonight is believed to be harmless.

Passengers and crew were evacuated from the flight from Melbourne tonight, and specialist police and fire brigade units were called in to investigate the potentially hazardous powder.

The substance has not yet been identified but authorities are confident it posed no risk to passengers or crew.

NSW Fire Brigades spokesman Superintendent Ian Krimmer said Hazmat crews had tested the substance on board.

"We determined there was no immediate risk in terms of chemical hazards to the public or the environment," he said.

"At this stage the substance is yet to be identified (but) we have ruled out any of the nasties."

Botany Bay police Acting Inspector Paul Beudeker said forensic investigators were working to identify the powder.

"Our forensic services group are currently examining the aircraft to ensure there's nothing further and also the nature of the substance that is on board," Insp Beudeker said.

"At this stage it's still difficult to determine exactly how the substance got there or why it's there."

Passengers were kept on the plane then put into a cordoned off area. None required medical attention.

A spokesman for Airservices Australia said 151 people, including six crew members, were evacuated from the plane, which had flown in from Melbourne around 6.30pm (AEST).

Virgin powder may be illicit drug
August 27, 2004

WHITE powder found on board a Virgin Blue plane that sparked a security alert at Sydney Airport could be an illicit drug, the Federal Government said today.

A crew member on the flight from Melbourne found the suspicious powder in the plane's toilet yesterday.

The Virgin Blue pilot requested that the hazardous materials plan be activated at Sydney Airport when it landed about 6pm (AEST).

When initial tests determined there was no risk of contaminating the outside area, the 145 passengers and six crew were evacuated from the plane.

Customs and Justice Minister Chris Ellison said the police hazardous materials team had analysed the substance and determined it was inert and not organic.

"Investigations now are continuing in relation to the possibility of illicit drugs being involved," he said.

"Of course it's of concern that anyone could have illicit drugs on an aircraft, be it international or domestic."

You'd need more than just cocaine to get me to fly with VB. They seem to test their stick shakers airborne just a bit too often for my liking!

Oh, Pig Dog, that was oh so very clever. Bravo.

I think if you read the incident reports of BOTH QF and DJ, you will find an overwhelmingly higher rate in QF. Of course, you probably are not privy to that information.

I always find it ammusing that DJ is more than willing and open to report incidents under the NAS, whereas QF and J* seem to cover it up a lot.

Perhaps QF / J* "pilots" can't interpret TCAS, even the aural warnings....

Perhaps QF / J* "pilots" can't interpret TCAS, even the aural warnings....

Want to justify your obvious zero knowledge here, RTA?

Perhaps QF / J* "pilots" can't interpret TCAS, even the aural warnings....

Whilst you are at it, want to justify this little gem, too?

Maybe the VB pilots are using this 'white powder', and that is what is causing the stick shakers to go off all the time, because something is causing it....!

RTA, maybe you should go back to taking photos of the big guys. Freakin wannabe.

Speaking of gems Shweinhund, heres another of yours:

May I ask on what facts is that little charmer based on? (sorry to be completely off the thread topic by the way folks)

So, you want me to explain the same gem twice? Or, are you, as always, confused?

Wannabe? Yeah, I wannabe JUST LIKE YOU Pig Dog, JUST LIKE YOU. You know SQUAT about me, MATE.

Aural = sound. They make NOISES. WARNING NOISES. You know, the TCAS that "says" "TRAFFIC, TRAFFIC" when you get a little close to another big fast moving object? Sheesh!

As to the "pilots" parentheses, I leave that open to YOUR insightful interpretation MATE. My regard of QF Domestic and J* pilots is about as high as yours of DJ pilots.

As to taking pictures, big boys that fly big toys can take photos too ya know. Or aren't you interested in aviation outside of the pay and chasing FA's?

Stay in the car park, RTA. You're obviously a farkwit.

Sinala, there have been reports lately of quite a few stick shaker incidents in VB during the last year. This includes the further reports of actual stalls losing thousands of feet in altitude. This comes directly from one of your own, who was disgusted.

What intrigues me, is how you manage to cover these incidents up. Clearly, you guys are worried about it, otherwise you wouldnt be switching to 10 deg AOB in cruise. So you tell me, whats goin' on?

Gentlemen. The swine fund, pig trough, whatever he calls himself is in a minority of DJ haters. He is NOT representative of J* or QF pilots. He will never change his derogatory attitude nor will his comments EVER hold any substance or conviction. He is vacuous, bereft of knowledge and talent, probably has very few friends and definately has a micro-scopic penis. Is it any wonder he comes into these forums with all guns blazing attacking a group of pilots with vastly more experience than he has.

Swine pig, NO DJ a/c has EVER lost 1000's of feet, NOT EVER. Just think about it fool. It would have been plastered across every news medium in the country. There was A (1) stick shaker incident and it has been investigated fully and procedures put in place to prevent a re-occurence. I know facts are hard to come by but even a moron like you could do better I suggest.

To all the normal people in here, I apologise for my condescention to the world's dumbest human being, (swine fest) but he does not comprehend basic dialogue. EVERY post regarding DJ is hijacked by this idiot and it's about time he was put away for remedial therapy. Contribute posts of merit or go away. We are sick of you continual tirades of rubbish.

Who, Schweinhund, our very own vapid bimbo? Surely not! :ok:

I think the plank of wood he carries on his shoulder reads "Moron rejected by Virgin Blue".

Maybe if he (or she, or it, or whatever) knew something about aerodynamics and performance, he/she/it may know the circumstances around the stick shaker incident. Maybe he/she/it cannot interpret performance curves? Maybe he/she/it isn't even a pilot at all!

Then again, who really cares?

Sperm bank et al, you only encourage his/her attitude. I wouldn't dignify it wih any response at all. To contribute something to the topic as it started I just want to say that the crew in total did a very very good job of handling the incident and should be recognised as such. All but one passenger totally cool and understanding. It was weird looking powder and the crews action was spot on.

I must be getting old and slowly 'losing it'

I haven't got a clue what you lot are talking about, all this petty name calling really clouds the issue, what ever it was.

I suspect that in the absence of any real knowledge or experience, name calling is substituted.

It's not school holiday time again is it?
