How legal is it to continue to operate an engine which is known to have a low EGT margin?.

Perfectly legal as you are not exceeding any limits.
A good maintenance organisation should pick up on the trend and plan a core wash or whatever to increase the margin, we suffer on our 340's with it and usually a core wash gets it back again.

spannersatcx- Thank you . At certain high elevation airports and at hot days you know for sure that you'll exceed the limits if you are close to TOGA . A good communication between maint.and operations can help a lot as line pilots are not always in the picture of the status of each engine . pilots use Flex t/o power most of the time ,so as long as there is no writeups ,pilots will not know enough information unless adviced of the trends and the OATL of the engine. If you cannot achieve your T/O power within the Engine limitations you cannot continue to operate that engine and a wash will not solve all engine problems. What procedures did your company issue to pilots regarding this problem.
