Haven't been down to Plymouth for a while but friends inform me that there seems to be alot of construction work around the threshold of rwy 13 and the adjacent Tavistock Road. Could this be the long overdue work on increasing the landing distance on rwy13 and takeoff distance on 31?? If it is then about time! Landing downhill on a short rwy with a crosswind and the prospect of bouncing off the roof of a double decker bus isn't alot of fun.......any updates?

Was there recently.

It seems that the construction work is to widen the Tavistock road rather than enhance the airport.

Same old story really, aeroplanes = noise = unsociable / don't develop airports, it costs votes. (Unless you're just off to see friends in Barbados, Sardinia, etc).

The road improvements will include resurfacing the runway, improving the approach aids and increasing the runway safety area. There are talks to buy land at the 31 end with the hope of increasing the runway length.
