Sad news to report that Bill Symonds the well respected Mobil refueller from Derby passed away this week after suffering a heart attack while at work at Derby airport.

He has helped many people out in the past, he was always a welcome sight 3am in the morning after coming back from a long day. Many people in the north west (from Darwin to Meeka) would not realise the important assistance he provided in getting RFDS aircraft refuelled to evacuate people from remote areas, any time of the day, 365/24/7.

He will be well missed.

:(

P.S. Bill who are they going to ring now to work out where to get one of those jet refuel nozzles to rotate ?

Indeed Derby is now missing one of it's true legends!

A great bloke who was always there when we needed him.

May the Barra be forever biting and your crab pots full now that ya upstairs laughing at us poor suckers getting called out at 3am during the wet!

He will be sadly missed by all at the RFDS.

Condolences to all his family.

Rest in Peace Bill. I'm very sure you were a great bloke even though we've never talked to each other before.

Condolences to his family.

Many thousands of litres, and dozens of beers (or was it the other way around?) - over more years than we would admit to- and yep 365-24-7, and always with that smile.
A thorough gentleman and good friend.

Old Bill,

You must have had the most sun scorched skin that I have seen, but you also had a warm smile and a helping hand on offer to any pilot (or anyone) at anytime.

You were a legend Bill and you will be sorely missed. Condolences to wife and son (that I know of)........

Willie
