OK, Western Digital WD1200JB on IDE1 workin' jes' fine as always.

Now the problem is that if I connect my 2x120gb WD SATA drives to the mobo (FastTrak software recognises the drives and sets up a mirror array no probs) the PC starts to boot windows fine but as soon as its about halfway through loading the system tray icons the PC just reboots, this happens every time until I turn off the PC and disconnect the SATA drive.

[Symptoms lifted almost verbatim from a user's post on the MSI forum for the MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR Mobo - issue wan't resolved]

Starting in Debug mode shows a Stop 0x0000000A or Stop 0xA or IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Start in Safe mode and no probs, the array is recognised and Windoze could partition and format it if I wanted. So I don't think it is a power problem.

So somewhere, somehow a driver is clashing. All MSI drivers and XP (ugh!) latest updates in.
Looked at M$'s Troubleshooting Stop 0x0000000A errors http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q314063 & can't figure it out quickly.

Any advice before I start plodding through the tedious remove/check drivers one by one scenario?

Many thanks

Mac the Knife,

Did you load the SATA Drivers for WinXP?

Take Care,

Richard

Yup.

Device Manager shows WinXP Promise Fastrak 376/378 (tm) Controller "working properly".

It wouldn't work in Safe Mode if it wasn't surely?

Mac the Knife,

That error is usually a driver issue:

K7N2 Delta Series Drivers (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=436&kind=1)

Just in case it is not. Tell me what PCI Cards are in which PCI Slots. You could also list all IRQs and every device on each IRQ.

Take Care,

Richard

Thanks Richard,

Pretty sure all drivers up to date but will check & report back.

Will check the other issues tomorrow (nearly midnight here) & let you know.

Mac the Knife,

Then we will give it the good fight tomorrow. ;)

Take Care,

Richard

P.S. It might mean doing a Repair with the WinXP CD. (Hitting F6 as you start the install and loading the RAID Drivers.)

Mac the Knife,

Your IRQs look good. I do not see a problem with either the IO Card or the NIC. Have you tried booting without the PCI Cards in the comp?

The last thing would be to try doing a Repair with the WinXP CD. (Hitting F6 as you start the install and loading the RAID Drivers.)

Take Care,

Richard

Now here's a curious thing. If I disable the Promise controller in Device Manager, reboot and then re-enable it "live" all is well. The system doesn't crash and sees the RAID controller's drives. So perhaps a driver load order story.

Any suggestions?

Thanks ORAC

Lotta stuff out there hmmmm...hnnnn
Wading thru it but haven't found anything helpful so far.

From my other forays it seems that I'm not the only feller with these problems.

Just tried removing the Promise in DM (with the drive disconnected) and rebooting
Windoze found the Promise and reinstalled the drivers.
Switched off and plugged the drive in again & rebooted.
Back to the get-half-way through booting and reboot cycle

Removed the Promise in DM again rebooted with the drive connected.
Back to the get-half-way through booting and reboot cycle
(but apparently without finding The Promise and reinstalling the drivers) because...

Disconnected drive and rebooted
Windoze found the Promise and reinstalled the drivers

So may be IS a PS problem. But then why should everything work in "Safe" mode?

This is getting irritating and since I don't really need RAID and have better things to do I'm tempted to say fcuck it. It would be nice to have an extra drive channel tho....

Mac the Knife,

I do believe it is a driver issue.

I still suggest doing a Repair with the WinXP CD. You need to hit F6 when you do the install. I have found that there are no problems when setting up the OS with the SATA RAID.

Take Care,

Richard
