To the Typhoon Jockey over Ramsey at 1750 this evening;

Is that all it does?

Actually, it was a very graceful 20 minutes of loops, turns and rolls. First one I've seen, which was nice. Sounds good too!

Perhaps a pair of you next time folks, with a bit of hard air combat? We do contribute to the UK air Defence budget after all.

:ok: :ok:

Trouble is the jet is far more capable than any of the rules allow. In the "good old days" when whizz pasts and beat ups were a recognised part of a young pilots "professional development" you were expected to depart in your Lightning after good "rote". Good flight commanders new this and prepared their "children" accordingly. Cranwell flypast, and a smaller gene pool to get caught in mean the "spirited displays" are a thing of the past. There were few bastions left where such "enthusiasm" was tolerated - Chivenor Hawks visiting Swansea to/from a Welsh navex, NorthWeald was good and so too was Warton, but sadly no longer the case.

Face it and accept it there ain't many palces you are going to see any "gobsmacking" flying. Big brother is watching, and sadly the spotters on PPRUNE help to ensure that the "culprits" get known about all too quickly. Trust me Ive been there!

While I'm on the subject, leave off the banter on the Typhoon display. RAF have far more important things to be doing with their new toy and BAE cannot afford the cost of training up a pilot in accordance with the rules unless the RAF gives them the hours (and money) to do so. Without the approved amount of work-up training all you are going to get is a "non-aerobatic" role performance demonstration. Period, dot.

Hmm - bit public that. Bang to rights, as they say.

The Lightning STCAAME departures were always good. Sitting listening to a desperately boring Buccaneer presentation in the OM at Valley once, just as the speaker was just getting to the rivettingly exciting bit trying to explain the difference between AutoDSL and ManDSL, the whole place shook as 4 Lightnings beat the cr@p out of it! Great - the staff WIWOLS loved it even more than the studes. But the groupie 'Tojo' didn't - and stormed out all red-faced and huffy!

Mind you, the Gutersloh mob did even better once when the 4th in the stream of F2As saying good bye to Valley managed to drop a boom on Caergeiliog at very low level.
