Can anyone comment on today's estimated time as a Second Officer? During the SARS outbreak some were saying up to 5 years however I am wondering what the current guess is based on the current climate.

Thanks in advance.:ok:

It’s never been five years. After 911 and SARS it blew it out to just over three years. I believe it is now just under three years and falling. With all the new aircraft arriving late next year and 2006 I can see it getting down to about 2 years by late 2005 barring any severe downturn in the world economy.

Hi,

I've emailed Cathay before and they told me it takes 3 years to get upgraded from S/O to F/O. As for F/O to Captain, it will take another 8 to 10 years. This info was emailed to me by Cathay Pacific so it should be fairly realistic. Hope this helps.

It is actually running at 8 to 10 years from date of joining not upgrade to FO. This of course varies with demand but time to command at present is falling.
