I have done a search and not found too much on here nor google.

Myself and Mrs Stall are planning to holiday in South America next year for 3 months. Planning to start in Ecuador and work our way southwards through Peru, Bolivia and Chile.

Whilst there, we would like to hire an aircraft as PIC (172 would be ideal) to see more of the local sights. Maybe fly around for 20 hours or so - depends on cost.

What is the situation for hiring an aircraft as a foreign ATPL holder? Are there any flying clubs in any of the aforementioned countries?

I don't speak much Spanish, but would not take too long to learn enough to get buy given my fluency in other similar languages.

Thanks in advance,

CS

I am not aware of any in Ecuador, Peru or Bolivia (surely there are some though), but I know that some flying schools and clubs exist in Chile. Here are some hopefully helpful weblinks:

Links de Aviación (http://www.aviacion.cl/links_aviacion.htm) (look under "Clubes Aéreos de Chile")

Chilnet.cl listing for Flying Schools (http://www.chilnet.cl/rc/port_select_companies.asp?acti_code=2176&code2=&lang=eng)

DGAC website-- Chile foreign licence validation (private flying) (http://www.dgac.cl/pilotos_personas_vuelo/convalidacion_licencia.asp) (bring valid passport, valid foreign licence, ratings and medical, logbook and 3 "carnet" sized photographs-- can be gotten easily anywhere in Latin America).

If you happen to find a flying school in Peru:
Foreign Licence validation-- Peru (http://www.mtc.gob.pe/dgac/servicios/ser_y_tra/per_aer.pdf)-- scroll down to the section for "Convalidación." Requirements include the same documents as for Chile, plus the successful completion of an exam in Peruvian aviation regulations.

. . . and for Ecuador:
Foreign Licence validation-- Ecuador (http://www.dgac.gov.ec/) -- see portion titled "CONVALIDACION DE LICENCIAS Y HABILITACIONES"

Hope this helps somewhat.
