Airbus mulling plane to rival Boeing 7E7:
LONDON (CBS.MW) -- Airbus is considering building a plane to rival Boeing's planned 7E7 wide-body jet, though it has not decided whether to proceed with the project, the Wall Street Journal said Friday, citing people involved with the discussions.
Airbus, 80 percent owned by EADS , is considering modifying its A330-200 model to include more fuel-efficient engines and possibly modify its wings to increase the jet's range, and market the plane under the name A350, the report said.
The 7E7 is designed to carry up to 300 passengers and travel up to 9,200 nautical miles, about 1,000 miles more than the A330.
