Not sure if this is the right section , but anyone know what the problem was today after MON 5834 arrived from EDI - subsequent flights to GLA/EDI showing heavy delays , presume tech problem ?? Are Monarch more prone to heavy delays than other charter airlines , passing through AGP some weeks ago a Gatwick was 15 hours late , plus I had a heavy delay ex EDI last summer too . To be fair , they are a very good airline overall

Monarch charter flights have poorer punctuality than the other large UK charter airlines, with the exception of MyTravel who are even worse, though even they did better than Monarch over the Winter 2003/2004 season.

See The Statistics (http://www.flightontime.info/charter/charter.html)

Their Scheduled flights however are far more punctual, with improvements year on year since 2001:

You mean this delay?

02.10 MON5835 MALAGA EXPECTED 1744

That's one big delay! More than 17 hours. Not seen a delay like that at EDI in a long time. Are MON sourcing another aircraft from somewhere to clear the backlog?
It was meant to depart to Las Palmas at 9am, that still hasn't gone.

Are MON still using the a/c doors closed times for their stats when it comes to officially recording the a/c "departure" times, or have the airports wised up to it and produced their own figures ??

The CAA figures (as on flightontime.info (http://www.flightontime.info)) are from official airport movement records and are based on the takeoff and landing times. The airlines have no control over the data (except to arrive and leave on time!).

An allowance is made for taxy to and from the gate to take account of the fact that scheduled operating times relate to pushback > on stand.

This prevents the ability for a flight to close the doors and push from the stand, but wait in a holding area for an hour but still achieve an "on time" departure record.
