Rumour has it that BA are about to stand down some of its aircraft. Busiest week of the year etc, etc.
Yes, the annual July madness that comes from BA mis-management could happen again........Remember last year ???
( a £60 Million own goal, thousands of disrupted customers, baggage being left all around the Globe )
With a fantastic piece of timing , it could all happen again.
This time it could also come from the implementation of new computer system. BA have in their wisdom have gone ahead with EWS, which now controls all the materials and stocks of the parts and tooling for aircraft maintenance. A complex computer system, with poor user interfaces......inevitably leads to delays in getting the required bits. More worrying, Rotable parts ( parts which are sent to workshops to be overhauled and re-used ) which have been removed are just piling up in the stores as they are unable to process them......result is that lots of parts are getting scarce, with rolling "Robberies" to keep some good aircraft flying, with defered defects raised reaching un-precedented levels......its only a matter of time before A/C getting grounded.
Further to this current disaster, EWS is about due to wreak its havoc on all the maintenance certification of Engineering work carried out, which is vastly more complicated than the relatively simple process of getting the parts !........ a trial run last year on the smallest fleet then in BA ( the ATRs) resulted in several aircraft sitting on the ground sometimes for 15 days whilst the electronic nightmare was being investigated........
