View Full Version : BACX - What & Where?

I tried this one elsewhere and got no response - so it could just be a dodgy question, but I will persevere in the hope that someone has the knowledge readily to hand!

In prep for a BACX interview, I'm trying to button down where each type is based. There appears to be precious little info on the net .....the Dash-8s are all at MAN and the ATPs are going, going, gone at GLA - the rest of the ac types are spread over the remaining bases and I have a fair idea of BHX and MAN, but the details evade me. If anybody has exact(ish) numbers and their locations I would be much obliged.

Ta!

I have a feeling that there is an ERJ145 or two based at EDI.

...and a couple at SOU I believe. Couple of -8's as well I think.

One WHOLE Dash-8 based at Belfast City!!:( sad to see as BA had plenty of flights out of Belfast now they have only the Manchester route.:uhoh:

At this moment there are three BACX ERJ 145s parked on the BRS eastern apron (vide the apron website) and they aren't going anywhere til morning.

However, I thought there were four of these ERJs based at BRS. Perhaps they've lost one or, more likely, I'm wrong. Be assured there at least three and no more than four.

There are no BACX turbo props based there any more.

DHC-8s all MAN based, with a MAN nightstopper at BHD.
ERJs at MAN,BRS,BHX,EDI,GLA I think
Bae 146 at MAN
RJ100s at MAN and BHX

Anything I missed?

2 Dash 8s and 2 ERJs at Southampton. I think since Duos demise there is some 146 (non RJ100) activity at BHX as well.
Is there an EDI base? There is only one route, and that is to CDG, I always assumed it was W patterned?

I'd suggest that being a pleasant sort of chap would be more important that knowing where each type of aircraft is based. As this is your first job I'm assuming that you are prepared to move where ever you are based (assuming you are wanted) and I'm pretty sure that's all they will want. And don't try and relate aircraft basing with crew bases. Airlines are like Gods, they move in mysterious ways.

Cheers ona and all for the info - cleared up much of the fog surrounding the issue as far my little brain is concerned.

ATP's have left the fleet since 28th of March, but their leases don't expire till 2007:ugh:

What about that rogue B763 G-BNWH (better known as G-Tech !)then ?
Obvoiusly MAN based and SHOULD be in this list as well since the JFK service is BACx op by BA or is it the other way arround ?

Porky Speedpig
16th Jul 2004, 11:38
Not sure why you would refer to G-BNWH as G-TECH as it is statistically just about the most reliable aircraft in the fleet.

elgan
16th Jul 2004, 12:17
The situation with G-BNWH is very complicated. Its leased to BACX from BA, but operates under a "speedbird" callsign as BACX are "british" of course, its flown by BA crew who come up from LHR in the morning, and its BACX cabin crew.
Please someone put it in a more easier way to understand!:}

Having worked for BA for 28 years I am no nearer understanding the way they work now as I was when I joined. As often stated it is run by accountants thus the 767 operation can be massaged to be a great success or deemed a financial flop all dependant on the wimbs of our power brokers.

NWH.

The B767 at MAN is, incidentally maintained by the few remaining BA Engineers left at MAN.

The BACX fleet, RJs, EMB145s etc are maintained by BACX's own Engineers.

Just thought I would throw that in to confuse matters a bit more!:\

Most of the info is here but a bit of background that isn't. Just because an aircraft is parked up some where every night doesn't necessarily mean it is based there.

The 2 145s at EDI operate CDG & BRS. They also operate through BRS to CDG helping provide the extra frequency on the BRS-CDG since AF pulled the route.

Two Dash 8s will soon be redeployed to EDI and IOM where crew bases already exist and lots of local pilots were faced with a move to manchester only to then nightstop back at their "home" base. First bit of common sense ever seen in BACX.

No crew base at BHD. The Dash 8 and crew are a MAN nightstop - all x-BHD crew moved to BHX or MAN largely onto RJ100.

At least 2 of the RJs,although crewed by touring BHX and MAN crews are officially BHX/Man based, operate from EDI to LCY and thorugh to GVA and 1 other operates LCY-FRA again as part of tour. These aircraft are roteated naturally with the weekly flying program.

Finally in this months issue of the flight crew newsletter (PRAVDA), GMFO stated recruitment was to be on going to cover massive expected pilot turnover (especially jet F/Os with lots of hours and no command prospects for the next 5-10 years !). So looks good for a rolling recruitment program.

Although there will be 8s at EDI, IOM and SOU all recruitment will be MAN on DHC8 unless RJ/146/145 type rated as regional slots fully bid for for the foreseeable future.

Any word on the Dash 8s being based at EDI and IOM? Any truth in the rumour that LC might be introducing them to replace the ATPs? If so could be interesting for those of us that had to relocate to MAN...
