G'day Guys and Gals,


Just wanted to get some feedback on what hinterland are like to work for, typical minimums for those who get in, pay, progression, and how often a newbie gets put on.

I have a fair bit of C208 time (IFR and night) and only a little multi, looking to get a job with some folks that may eventually let me have a crack at a twin

Couple of years ago when I worked there they were a great operator. Pay generally above the award...good variety of aircraft to fly which were all well maintained. (C206, C402, C404, BN2, AC50, C208 & B200)
Most guys were doing around 600 - 650 hrs a year.
Minimum requirements were 2000 total and 500 multi. High hour requirements are due to various govt contracts.
As they also do regular RFDS clinic runs they also prefer 100hrs night (RFDS requirement).
They also have a preference for drivers that are endorsed on a couple of types (multi) that they operate.
They really only look at guys that have extensive charter experience from northern oz.
At this stage there are quiet a few casual drivers as the company is awaiting the outcome of contract negotiations involving runs to certain island resorts. (YDKI & YLZI). I'm led to believe the company they are doing the runs for are happy however the owners of the islands aren't happy with the vans doing the runs.
Hinterland are owned by Trailfinders (large travel agent) hence there are certain perks associated with that. They also have a resort up in the daintree that they fly punters into everyday. Staff were entitled to a free weekend up there...not sure if that is still the case now though.
Movement really depends on how the airlines are hiring.
Hinterland, like Skytrans are really the last operators (from FNQ)most guys get into before landing a job with the majors. They generally don't take guys with a fresh CPL or hours less than their requirements.
