I believe it could happen in anybody's defence industry if it was allowed to but I doubt that it would result in blue on blue in our military even if such a poor system was allowed into service. It would appear that all the blame has been shifted onto the equipment but what were the humans in the chain doing because they knew of the problems. There is no way they should have allowed either automatic or manual engagement, particularly with such a minimal air threat against them.

In our forces if there is any doubt there is no doubt. It appears that the American attitude is if there is any doubt, shoot.

You're over here,

No it couldn't happen here because we don't posess a medium range SAM system and haven't since the 'Dog was withdrawn in 1990.

We have to rely on our allies to provide this sort of capability, like a whole host of other military capabilities that we simply don't have, which is what makes the whole Sea Harrier debate so pointless as we couldnt go it alone against a sophisticated threat for SO many reasons, not just the lack of a flight of SHAR's.
