Near miss at Roissy CDG

Is anyone aware of an air miss collision at CDG (runway 27/9) on Sunday 13 June? (not a near miss as previously advertised - was in a hurry!!!) I really am trying to find out whether anything like this really happened. Can anyone help out?

Actually, it was surprisingly large dog-like animal, without any clothing. Little Red Riding Hood was no-where to be seen. Poor thing looked startled - I was close enough to look it in the eye as our big bird swooped over it. Swooped is not really the right word - captain was flying - reflex action and managed to lift the wing which probably prevented fox vs tyre.

Now I think this tale has relevance.

Fox ran out from the undergrowth and was on the centreline - probably crossing the runway to grab a squashed bunny or similar.

I told ATC twice that there was a fox on the runway. It presented a reasonably big target and could forseeably have done some damage to a low slung engine or brake assembly or whatever.

ATC finally gets the message and then tells following traffic to caution the fox NEAR the runway. Obviously they didn't want anyone going around. We reiterated fox ON the runway. Well, if it had any sense it wasn't any longer, but who knows, the thing must be used to aircraft and is prepared to dart out in a gap.

I very much doubt that anyone was sent to have a look for the poor thing and dispatch it.

We then taxied in, avoiding the usual array of insane drivers and pedestrians (one in a nice suit) game enough to cross our path. I brushed up on my schoolboy French on the way, and realised that I still cannot understand a word.

Yes, CDG has an enviable safety culture.

Where the word airmiss comes from.

Probably in 1904, when Orville in the Flyer 1 almost hit Wilbur in the Flyer 2 , when they landed they just said "S#@t we "nearly missed "each other ! The expression sticked from then on.

Once chased a very big - and athletic - rabbit quite some distance up a runway. The race lasted a good part of a mile.

He was minding his business out ahead of us in the middle of the broad asphalt strip as we flared. Silly creature decided to out-run the aircraft the hard way, sprinting right up the centerline.

It was touch and go (har har) for a bit, but then he pulled smartly ahead of the nosewheel & made for the horizon.

Was likely the most interesting thing that happened in that desert place in a long while. Probably he was telling the same story, from a bunny pov, to his great great great grandchildren.

Around 40 years ago I lined up for take-off at Ascension Island. (This was before the Americans doubled the length of the runway by demolishing two hills and filling in a valley). Further progress was impeded by a pair of heterosexual asses (not donkeys) who were heavily involved in trying to produce lots of little asses and they were not going to be put off by the noise of four Rolls Royce Darts.

Believe it or not, it took a large 6-wheeled fire engine to gently push this amorous pair off to the side (still coupled and steaming) before we could get going. If it comes to sexual dedication then I would like to nominate this pair for an award.

With reference to the previous poster, I doubt that a rabbit would have the energy to stay ahead for a mile on take-off. It was more likely a hare.

If you ever run one over then it would be a kindness to ask ATC to send out "Crash One" with some hare-restorer!

A few years ago a Captain from Varig went out the runway at CDG and killed a few dozen rabbits. He is retired now and have a restaurant in Brazil, figure what is the main dish of the house…

At the time for the accident with the MD80 and the Shorts
i was flying for Air France ( wetlease ) out of CDG. Same routes
every day, Speaking English.

And i must say that the French controllers was extremely arrogant! We spoke English to them and they got back in French. We could say English please about three or four times before they started to speak English back to you. Very unproffessional in my opinion.

One day i was thinkin that something bad is just waiting to happen at this airport. The following morning we heard about this Accident. Very very sad day!

And CDG was just crowded with animals. One day we where taxing out for T/O on 09L when two young little red foxes ( the animal ones, he he! ) came walking just beside the cockpit about
fifteen meters out, they followed us for a minute or so and then went behind a yellow sign. Very unusual sight a must say.

I thinks that Near states the proximity of the two aircraft and Miss, well, that the two aircraft did not make contact.

Just out of curiosity, how can you nearly hit something in a "Near Hit"????
