Hi all, I'm trying to research about the DR Congo and vaguely remember reading on the RAF website that C-130's were on standby for the DR Congo, though the info has now gone.

Am I correct or is this not the case.

Thanks in advance

On 30 Jul the RAF deployed to Entebbe one Hercules C Mk3A and one crew from LXX Sqn with a small detachment in support of Op CORAL/ARTEMIS. This was the French led EU operation to secure the Ituri region of DR Congo and involved supply flights from Entebbe to Bunia and return. The detachment gained a Hercules C Mk1 then exchanged it's Mk3A for another Mk1. Crews were drawn from 47 and LXX Sqn and were part of a 'Transport Wing' that consistited of 2 x French AF C130s, 2 x Belgian AF C130s and 2 x Brazilian C130s. The rest of the multinational AF consisted of 1 x French AF C160, 1 x Atlantique, 4 x Mirage F1-CR, 2 x Gazelles, 2 x Pumas and 2 x South African AF Orynx.

The RAF flew daily sorties at the end of the sustainment then the recovery phase of the operation. The aircraft recovered on 9 Sep 03.

The RAF website throughout continued to say that 'C130s were on standby for the DR Congo'.
