hi there,

whats with qantas scheduling refuelling stops on the way back from knx on their 146 runs at newman?

i thought the 146 range enabled it to fly routes such as this without the need for fuel stops?

interested on your expert opinions...

I can't give you an informed answer because I'm not....

But speaking generally, assuming that full fuel (~9300kg) can be uplifted ex KU, one would need a very light head wind component, no cloud (ant icing can increase fuel burn up to ~9%) and no requirements on PER, to make the 1194nm (as the crow flies)

ASP-PER which I regularly fly, at 1069nm plus STAR, can be a challenge with headwind and/or cloud and/or any more than 30 minutes holding at PER.

It's the same old story.

You can have full fuel or you can have full pax but you can't have BOTH. It seems that pax numbers are good as Q have now scheduled another flt from mid Jul.

Claret...do any of the NJ 146s have the LR tanks, I know most of the AN 146-200s over in PER used to have LR tanks which helped out on the longer sectors, 2 of the 300s used to have them too for the flights to NLK, but even they were pretty dicey in average weather...it's only an extra ton afterall

Only two of the 100s.

As you say it's about an extra tonne of fuel, which could help, but the 100s with a healthy pax load don't come close to being able to lift full fuel, as alluded to by Agent86.
