Have heard this evening that VS has picked a start date of 7 December for flights to Sydney, apparently to be announced on Monday. Can anyone confirm? If true, I may need to re-plan the December trip down under.

Of course, this extension to their network has been so long in the planning that it could be yet another false alarm.

srs what?

There is apparently an announcement due tomorrow but whether it is regarding a start date for SYD or something else I can't tell you.

I have it on good authority that the announcement tomorrow will be HKG-SYD from Nov/Dec.

Sure it will be on the Virgin Atlantic website as a press release if that is the case.

Virgin Atlantic Airways, the full-service international airline of the Virgin Group, announced today that it would launch daily scheduled services between Sydney and London via Hong Kong, commencing on Wednesday, 8 December.

Thank you all. 7 December can do, 8 December too late - so I will factor this in.

Interesting to see the man still peddling the nonsense about the BA/Qantas "duopoly". Why do the media allow him to get away with it? Presumably he still hasn't noticed that there will a plethora of CX aircraft flying alongside him on this exact route, let alone via other points?

The media allows him to get away with it because the media are not overly concerned with facts and it makes a good quote!
