Those of you considering an ATPL awarded under the exemptions scheme should be aware that the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department have recently rejected ATPL conversion applications from those who can't provide the results documentation proving they have passes in all ATPL subjects because they didn't have to take the exams in the first place. The CAD answer is that applicants have to take the HK exams.
Although they have awardrd one ATPL based on exemptions in the past, it appears they have had a change in heart and are accepting no more. This has prompted Cathay Pacific to not accept pilots with exeption awarded ATPLs.
So those who have set their heart on a career with Cathay or Dragonair should consider taking the UK exams. There is a thread running on the Fragrant Harbour from on this topic.
