I've had nothing to do with Norhtham Aero Club but I can tell you that it is an arm of the Royal.

Not sure if it's changed NAP but it used to be affiliated with the Royals and operating under there AOC however, for all intents and purposes, they were completely different operations. A chap called Simon Harrison used to be the main instructor there. Incredably decent bloke and if he's still there, I'd say go for it. I did a bit of instructing for them in 98/99 and things were pretty chilled. Had oldish but serviceable equipment and decent pay. Sorry I can't vouch for them recently.
