It's been a while since we had a totally pointless thread. I note that some have tried, such as "To tired to post" by trolleydollylover bu it has degenerated into a PPRuNe addicts session now.

So here we go, with a totally pointless post.

Do you put the number of posts in your CV?

Does anybody have a view on the 6 guys (reported in UK press yesterday) who went into Gordon Ramsay's Petrus restaurant and drank several bottles of wine to a total bill of around 44,000. (Preceded, for a couple of them, by a bottle of beer).

My view? This is totally consistent with the Thatcherite 'f~~~ you mate, I'm making loads of money' attitude to life. Being a Royal Air Force trained world class piss artist, even I cannot see that there is any justification for such extreme self indulgence. You could do a hell of a lot for less fortunate people, have a bloody good feed (say 50) and get out of yer tree (say 20)for that kind of money - and wake up feeling good about yourself. Or am I just getting to be a sanctimonious old git?

Qwin

Qwin, I cannot see that a mere bottle of wine can have such a ridiculously high value put upon it. I dont like red wines anyway, I only drink the sweeter whites but whatever the colour, dry or sweet, I would personally feel that the fair maximum price for ANY bottle of wine would be 15 allowing a very generous markup all round for producer, importer, distributor and vendor. I agree that this is obscene and is typcial of the Dives and Lazarus attitudes of Thatcherite then Blairite Toryism since 1979, the "F**k you, Im alright Jack" attitude. Its all very sad.

I also wonder how many of these so called wine experts would be able to identify the grossly overpriced wine against a wine from the same vinyard and type bought from a local off licence or supermarket if they had to taste them bindfolded under control conditions.

What was the cloudbase and visibility, pax? It was fine and dry here in Borneo this morning, 2/8ths at 2500 feet. Wind 285 at 5 knots. 33 degrees C in the shade. 85% humidity. A beautiful tropical day in fact.

My turtle was very hungry and Ujang the cat peed on the neighbours lawn. (That's OK because they never saw him do it.) Oh yes, and there was very little traffic for a Monday morning, no idea why.

I'm quite sure I will never be tempted to post anything in a totally pointless thread. Why sould I. There are so many extremely interesting threads on PPRuNe that I am even sure I will not even be tempted to read through even the first few posts of a totally pointless thread. So, as far as I am concerned it is a total waste of bandwidth to start a thread like that. Sorry Feeton but your thread is absolutely wasted on me.

To be short: I'd say it is utterly pointless to start a totally pointless thread.

Ah I get the point, a totally pointless thread.
Well, the fundamental basis for this in particular leads to shift in thinking beyond which we can operate to expand this particular boundary and enhance plausible reasoning to a point where it now no longer restricts our perception of this site and it's limitations.
Further, the very act of introducing this sequence changes the balance in such a way as to further remove the technical, philosophical and intellectual aspects of the actual act of commiting to a position and developing our world view.
Immediately we can see that any attempt to ignore the original basis of this thread lead to negation of the very fundamental and imperative restrictive parameters as laid down in the title.
Any attempt to stray beyond these parameters leads to an opposing and polar shift in reasoning.
Any attempt to make a point must be resisted but to do so would negate the original basis of this discussion. The concomitant effect of this would be force it into a situation where it had a point. Perforce it must collapse into itself. It is an inherently unstable entity, any attempt reinforce it's stability will collapse it, failure to do will inevitably lead to it's collapse.
Therefore we find ourselves in a reinforced Lebermann's triangle.
Note in order to preserve the entity for it's maximum life, you must NOT write nonsense. Each comment must stand alone as being pointless but viable. Comments like; The dog fell up the wall, must never be used. Keep it real but with a minimum use of realism.
Note my repitive use of the term 'any attempt', it's pointlessness is an inherent part of the process. It was quite deliberate it immediately reduces all of my commentary to pointlessness and expiates all reasonable notions of reality while simultaneously enhances what I say and your perception of my commentary.

That is the key to the whole process.
'Any attempt' to answer me in kind could be dangerous to us all, do so with care.

REMEMBER THE BASIS

5 The world population of chickens is about equal to the number of people. (who got them to stay still long enough to count them)

6 There are more plastic flamingos in America than real ones.

7 Most lipstick contains fish scales. (so that's why ;) )

8 It's against the law to catch fish with your bare hands in Kansas. (you'd have to be in Kansas to want to I guess)

9 Only 55 percent of all Americans know that the sun is a star. (not saying a word about a certain pruner)

10 A Saudi Arabian woman can get a divorce if her husband doesn't give her coffee. (guess she has to stay inebriated to stay married)

11 The first known contraceptive was crocodile dung, used by Egyptians in 2000 B.C. (wouldn't you avoid someone who used it as a perfume)

12 "Kemo Sabe" means "soggy shrub" in Navajo. (do you think the Lone Ranger knew he was being called a wet bush  )

I thought it was pointless just to start a new thread

My colleague has put some items of gardening equipment into his shed.

My new shed hasn't arrived yet. I must see about ordering it, unless someone could do that for me?

Feet, are you related to Arthur "two sheds" Jackson? Is this your second shed?

I had a shed delivered once.
Had to put it together myself, though.
And paint it.
Now my wife put those long flower bucket things under the windows.
Looks like a mini-Swiss chalet.
I don't see the point.
It's still a shed.

Has she put curtains up inside yet

But Velvet, what's the point of putting up curtains? :D

I have a shed. It's a bit like Mr Drapers pilot friend. Broken. Thats why I want a new shed. I must see about ordering it, unless someone could do that for me?

Shed curtains? They have a point. Stops the neighbours peeking in at your pin up gurlz (not to mention what your doing while peeking at them ;) )

I've just read seven pages of this crap, and I have to say I find it all rather pointless really.

Angels, my neighbour has curtains in his shed and the curtains are looped back with ribbon bows - they don't have points on them. They've also got a gnome fishing in a non-existent pond - what a pointless existence.

He doesn't seem that type feets, wonder what he does there - is there any point in asking ?

No, Hun, no curtains.
I have to draw the line somewhere.
If only I weren't so weak.

By the way, all times are in UTC.

Feeton Terrafirma

Is it pointless to mention that I don't believe in UTC? I can't come to terms with those leap seconds every six months or so. It's valuable time, and they just treat it with disdain, all for the sake of some atomic clock. Pointless really

I'm negotiating for a free shed but it appears it will cost me $519.00. What's the point?

I have a friend who is a professional shed smuggler.

Why would anyone want curtains in a Skyvan?

I once saw curtains in a VIP DC6 at Northolt. They were probably to stop Mig pilots peering in at the C in C.

It's bleedin' pointless if it runs the server down. Long posts such as this eat up a lot of CPU time and so I am shutting this thread down.

Feel free to restart another one but please realise that threads with over 100 replies are causing grief and unless they have a reasonably useful point to make such as "how can we raise the 3,000 a month it is going to cost to get an even more powerful server with 4 CPU's and the 200-300 Gb of bandwidth to accomodate all this pontless crap" then it's not going to run forever.

I thought this thread was being shut down?

Would one be correct in surmising this to be the progenitor of the modern TRRBATPSOIT saga?

Perhaps there's a copyright issue then... and some royalties and matters of top billing to be straightened out.

Interesting that Feeton's own last post is buried somewhere in The Highly Esteemed TRRBATPSOIT Mk 4. (http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=161574&perpage=15&pagenumber=1)
