View Full Version : Think of a registration...

We need a new registration for our EC-120. The authorities have restricted us to the country letter, B, followed by the next letter K or L, then two more letters. I will not go into why as this is an open forum :D

We have found the obvious ones of B-LUE, B-KUP, B-LEW, B-KIS but I know that out there is someone with a mind that works with letters like this.

So come on please, you crossword and anagram fanatics. We need it to be polite, but anything will be considered. Prize is an hour over Hong Kong in said machine and a slap up dinner in Mrs. Miggins pie shop A.K.A. the Hong Kong Aviation Club.

How about B-LOW ('blow' and 'below')

Well, it is a helicopter.

Dan:ok:

Or...B-LIP ATC will never miss you that way:O

Good Start! Think anagrams as well as losing the odd vowel that sometimes works with waypoints.

B-GR8 (aka "Be Great")

Do we get our names inscribed next to the data plate if we recommend the winning acronym?

Maybe not

B-LAY, especially if you'll be doing any hoisting (mountaineering term?). B-LUV (wish you had four letters, mine would definitely be B-LUVD). B-KUM in case it changes into something else. B-KER if your cup runneth over.

Ah well, I couldn't afford to get to Hong Kong anyway.

This is good. People, keep it coming.

RD, you might if it starts with a K or an L. No prizes for G. Our original request was for B-OBO which was turned down, so you can see the way we were thinking.

B-LUV is up there with the leaders already, but may be a pacer from the Hilco stable. B-KUM is right out as we have a lady in the syndicate.

Whirly, I like the way you're thinking.

No prizes for sheep, but cute animals would work. Also think Chinese, we tried B-KAM for golden, but no banana.

How about...

B-KFL

...because I'm sure you will be.

Oh boy!...I really want to win. I only have one hour of EC-120 time in my logbook and I want more:uhoh:

C s C, yes that is one of my favorites as you can see by my "sub handle", but it didn't work with the other owners.

Not easy is it? The big question is why don't the HK CAD sell out of sequence letters like the HK transport department do with motors?

I mean, there is nothing in the law that says it has to begin with K or L. And selling a registration is revenue for the government. Just tradition I suppose.

So lets keep positive. B-LOB is nice but on low odds right now. B-KEG has a beery tone to it which appeals, but there must be better.

Dantruck

And...

B-KOZ

...well, just because, that's all

Or...

B-LIT

...as it will be most of the time, I\'m sure.

If the lady\'s name is Elizabeth or similar you could also use

B-LIZ

Well, that\'s me done!

Good odds on B-KOZ, in good form over this distance.

Add in a further handicap. How easy is it to say over the RT? GOLF MIKE are the only two monosylabics of the phonetic alphabet and some combinations are difficult with a mouth full of Mars bar or bacon and egg sandwich.

Keep them coming.

Someone said B KEG for beer drinkers. How about BEER?

Or for Beer drinkers how about BURP?

Then again there is BUTT. Or, BANG and if you get a second helicopter how about BING? If you are into reading how about BOOK?

If the helicopter is used for heliskiing how about BRRR? If the helicopter is used in low flight application how about BUZZ?

If the helicopter is used for questionable financial purposes how about BILK?

Shall I go on?

Yes it is easy if you can use any letters but the registration authority are restricting us to B-K_ _ or B-L_ _ which cuts it down a lot.

I wonder if we could slip B-ONK past a clerk working in his second language...

Good suggestions people, still looking for that one elusive pearl that shines out.

In a similar vein, there was a 500N owner in Oz, who painted the tailboom tipcap blue. he then registered the machine as VH-FLY, and he delighted in telling people he had a blue-arsed fly!

How about B-KOP ? Paint it dark blue with a yellow top and you'll be able to fly it where e'er you like.

Or B-LLL, then if you could fly it in formation with a Z-BUB, you'd have the devil of a combination.

Yes, sorry about the delay. The short list was sent to the HK CAD on 24th May for final selection. "Their wheels grind slow, but grind exceeding thin," so I shall give them a gentle nudge this week to see which has been accepted.

The anticipation is stressing me too, as we need to get the reggie numbers cut, and lots of other things revolve around the final letters, as I'm sure you know.

Yes, the offer still holds for the first one to suggest our final registration. And with my exceedingly limited time on turbines, should the second prize be TWO flights. :ooh:

And the winner is.............

B-KOZ

This was agreed by the group and confirmed by CAD registration today. The first to suggest it was Dantruck who wins the dubious prize of an hour over HKG in an EC120B with a neophyte pilot and a recuperative dinner. PM me with your contact deatils Dan.

Many thanks to you all for the other suggestions. May I suggest the Times crossword for your next project?

Yippie!!!!!

I'm having a good week, this week. Just added my JetRanger type rating, too.

Mental note to self: Buy a lottery ticket this afternoon.

Now, does anyone know the cheapest route Malaga-Hong Kong?
