There is rumer that a second streaming point after Linton has been put in place, like the chop session that happened the other month to cut the holds for vally.....

This is only rumer, if anyone knows more please post a reply.

I beleive it is true as a temporary measure.

I know that I am - indeed - an old and crusty bugger. I also know that some people get grumpy when spelling, punctuation and general standards of English are criticised in here. However, apart from the appalling standard shown above, at least if you live in Wales (and note the capital W), you might learn how to spell the name of the relevant RAF Station!!

Come on old man, it is only "rumer" after all.......

Yup, it's true; the next lot of guys go through it on Thursday. It seems they're a big course, so they're losing 50%.

Looks like the course you're on matters more than anything else now; they may have over 15 being streamed, but there's still only half a dozen or so slots at Valley. The next course only has 7; so presumably there'll be a few out of the 15 who wind up holding for Cranwell who are better than the last couple out of the 7 who make it through.

Perfectly fair though, isn't it?

As yet another crusty old bugger......how did flyer1997 ever get through IOT - let alone get a GCSE in English? Perhaps the rumour is correct and that all the uneducated get sent to Valley in Wales.

God save us from officers who are not proficient in their own language:yuk:

You crustys need to drag yourselves into the modern era.......txt spk is all the rage for todays yoofs!!

allan907: No doubt you'd be impressed with the Wing Commander who snagged a jet for having a 'lose rivot on wing'. After hours searching I gave up, went and asked him to show me where it was, only to be shown a loose screw on the air intake. They're a better class of people, don't you know....:8

...as I was impressed by the techie who marshalled my Tornado in front of the HAS, getting his left and right arms mixed up.
I did my own thing - not wishing to hit the concrete - shut down and climbed down the ladder. He said, pointing to the position of the jet, 'What the f**k do you call this then?'

This is getting OT, but perhaps it explains why they have never taken the numbers and grades off the F6000 and OJAR. It gives the promotion boards some idea of what the dyslexic RO is trying to say!

Presumably F1997 refers to the atli...alto....altimeeter, altometeer as the thingy that tells you how far up you are:}

Presumably OASC, IOT and the FTSs are now satisfied with Grade 1 English?

F1997 was it always your intention to be a Council road man? (and that's probably doing Council road men a great disservice)

Storl tern,

Do you have an interest in rare bird species or is there another reason for your handle?;)

Yeah, very interested in rare birds. The really rare ones are those who pay their way:E

The handle is simply because I can't spell 'stall turn' and my ultimate ambition is to be a Council roadsweeper. Bugger this bus driving - it's Virgin on the ridiculous:ok:

So getting back to the rumour in the first place...what happens to the guys who get through Linton and don't get to go to Valley. Are they all restreamed multi or are some being rebranched?

What happens to the guys who get chopped whilst going through Linton?

That's all well and good but what about the proper 'thread'?
Should it not be 'crusties', or is 'crustys' the correct form?

allan907
21st May 2004, 07:38
I think that it's 'crusties' - pronounced 'knackered old b****rds who can use their own language'

And talking of pronunciation (bet F1997 would have problems with that one!) how come the Yanks pronounce nuclear (new clear) as noo kew lar?

And how come they say 'George Dubya Bush' when everyone else pronounces it 'Texan Idiot' ?

From mates at Linton; should we want to drag this a little back on topic ;) ; 50% off to Valley, a couple to Shawbury, and the rest to Cranwell; I think the split was 9/2/6. Guys off to Valley are getting 4-6 month holds rather than the previously forecast 12-18!

5forward,

At least it looks like things are looking up already. With any luck once I'm out of Cranwell things will be peachy again (wishful thinking  ).

One thing's for sure - poor F1997 will think twice before he posts anything on this board again!

On this subject (and i apologise if this has been discussed elsewhere recently) - isn't it time that the system was re-jigged and the true streaming point was once again part way through the Tucano course? This is how it used to be and it must be better than sending people fast jet, spending money on getting them through Linton and then not actually sending them to Vally/Valli/Vly/Valey/Valley? It seems to me that at the moment the system is not benefitting anyone - it's expensive to the RAF and is destroying the morale of a lot of people during their training. Not exactly a great recipe for creating a 'streamlined' air force that packs, pound for pound, a better punch than anyone elses' air force....

Flyer1997 is noticeable by his absence - perhaps he's spending all his time at the Educ Flt doing remedial English:p

Mistral,
I am one of those just chopped from Linton. And the answer is...I don't know yet. I was chopped in April, TGDA are yet to confirm where I am going next but (having been chopped post-BHT) I am reliably informed that the chances of me getting re-streamed are somwhere in-between nil and c0(k all. Also, rumer (geddit?) has it that reselection isn't looking rosey either. However, I'm keeping an open mind and a McDonalds application form close at hand.

On the last 'Streaming Confirmation' board we were told catagorically that all those that had successfully completed BFJT would get a cockpit job of some sort.

Those that had been chopped before the end of the cse would all be judged on their individual merits.

For example, the guy who struggles with capacity on the last few formation lead sorties, but has an otherwise good record, has a good chance of being re-streamed. However, the guy who got chopped for poor attitude to pre-flight prep, ie showing up for a low level trip with an unfinished map etc etc, is probably sunk!

It's only a "rumer" that you need maps nowadays. What's a GPS for? Close enough is good enough! (See other threads)
