CX 747-200 sim and MS Flight Simulator

Hard not to sound like a Microsoft Flight Simulator geek here but... can anyone recommend a B747-200 RR aircraft or panel for FS2002/2004 that would be suitable for practicing the interview simulator profile as conducted by CX?

There are plenty of 747-200 aircraft/panels around, but none I can find that match the CX -200. Most of them use the default 747-400 instrument panel but attach it to a 747-200 body and paintjob. Not quite the same really...

Yours in not having access to expensive full-size simulators (or the $$$ to hire them!)

i used a program called "ready for pushback" it is a full on 742 sim add on for ms flight sim. worked great for me, flew the profile they send probably 50 times before i went to HKG.

i had mine in my hands 2 days after ordering.

Where did you get that software for flight sim? On line?

CX-2-B: :ok: ta for the hot tip reference 'Ready For Pushback'. Download the latest version from http://www.panelshop.com. $US30, 66MB (!) but worth the wait. A very good package and the closest I have seen to the 742 cockpit photo in the Cathay final interview package. Additional (free) downloads include several hundred pages of excellent documentation, supplementary software and tutorials. The integration with FS2004 was seamless.

So far as advice regarding there being no substitute for a full-size sim for Cathay interview prep... given that in this part of the world we don't have access to a B742 sim, and that there is a significant number of pilots from this part of the world working for Cathay, I would beg to differ! Perhaps you have a financial interest in a company with some sim slots to sell...;)

Good that you got it, i found it very helpful, no replacement for the real thing obviously but if you can have the profiles down to instinct that will help, the flap settings and everything are spot on. Worked for me anyway, i did rent a sim just before leaving for HKG as i had access to one.

What type of sim did you rent? I have access to a 767 and will use it in June a couple of times.

Is there a 747-200 sim that used to be Air Canada's at some college out in BC? I heard that it is possible to get time in it.

The presumption of some aviation professionals astounds me. Just trying to help someone else to get a career with CX. Of the 24 interviewed in my week, I know 4 did prac sims and those 4 are now over here.

My 2 cents worth, is priiiiiiiiice shouldnt be a factor f you havnt flown a heavy then get into a sim, If you dont have a 74-200 sim nearby just use a 744 one, you should be able to fly analoge so what you are doing is getting a feel for the handleing, steep turns ILS's etc, keeping up with the plane...

I did my practice in a 400 sim and found it priceless as far as preperation.

Yes you do. QF have a B742 sim in Sydney. I know for a fact that guys are still turning up in HK after having a practice in one of their sims.

Please don't take offence at my comments regarding your sim prep advice. In my specific response to your comments, I thought that the final sentence and the 'winking' icon at the end of that paragraph would serve to highlight the contrast between the strength of your original comments and my sim dilemma.

Believe me, I do appreciate your advice regarding the value of sim time in prep for the final interview: why else would I be looking for some sort of substitute? If I could get myself a sim slot, I would, but the reality is that out here there is nothing available. I therefore have no option but to resort to a PC-based flight sim to practice the procedures. From there I have to place faith in my previous jet and sim experience, as others from here have done before me.

No doubt I owe you a beer.
