Is this going to be another NOW Airlines. Announcement this week, announcement next week, announcement week after, announcement when the announcement is made......

Well, if it's the EUJet with FK-100s that I've seen around for the past six months or more, they may noy yet be flying their own scheduled services, but they are flying. That's already a BIG difference to the NOW fiasco!

bacardi walla
13th May 2004, 10:14
Very true indeed, but most if not all their work is ACMI......maybe they are having regulatory problems. Who knows

Right guys, as much as i can tell you from the horses mouth as it were.

I have had the interview for a Manston position, and the offical line is that EUJET will hold an press and TV launch in Kent next week to announce the routes structure (27 planned) and offically launch the operation to the public with a planned late June start as stated on thier website.

Seven aircraft will be based at Manston.

Flights will op 7 days a week with a mixture of bucket and spade flights at weekends, and exc class during the week.

The company state that their buisness plan see's a large enough catchment area to support this operation and its predicted rapid growth.

Pay and conditions for employees will be advised after the launch next week.

:ok:

SNNEI,

They may very well fly, but what on earth have they got to offer !

Have you ever tried getting to Manston? Sure, they may get to fill some seats, but it will be pure leisure traffic, who, at this stage of the LoCo revolution, don't want to pay very much.

And when the BIG guys are finding the current environment challenging, what chance has a new upstart in a remote airport with old ( and expensive to run) aircraft got.

Getting up and running is not a measure of success these days....it's surviving. Ask the guys at Duo.

The rail network to manston may leave a lot to be desired, but the road network is superb.

The "thanet way"/A299 was built specifically for the airport which is a strecth of dual carriageway right to the airport, which links to the M2 which in its self has had millions spent on it in the last couple of years and is now 4-lane on a long stretch.

Having worked out of LGW for a long time, it will be a dream not to have to negotiate the M25/M23 which are ghastly at the best of times.

yep .. Straight line from M25 down the M2/A299, about 1 hour.

Manston is a peice of cake to get to.

I work out of MSE but occasionally commute back home to the Northampton area which you can roughly do in just over two hours.

If you're unlucky enough to get caught up in any M25 queues. you can rest assured that the M20/A299 section is always clear.

Personally, I think MSE has a good catchment area for anyone east of the M25 wanting to go away, but little appeal for people wanting to fly into 'London' Manston, with the expectation of seeing Big Ben on finals.....

Even Gatwick/Stansted and Luton (all self-proclaimed London airports) have the facilities to get you into the capital within an hour, whereas with Manston you can't........

Lodon Manston is no more.

It's Kent International Airport Manston.

A new 2,000 space car park is being constructed in the field opposite the terminal. 100 yards walk to the nearest space!
Fee will be £20 per week.

That's brill, given that according to AutoRoute Northampton is 153 miles and takes typically 3 hours 38 minutes !

In fact your average speed is well over the UK speed limit, on some of the most congested motorways in the UK.

Ah, had a thought, are you commuting by PA28 through Sywell ?

>>In fact your average speed is well over the UK speed limit, on some of the most congested motorways in the UK.<<

Driving times, particularly to airports, are amongst the most
hotly disputed.

Folk never seem to allow for eventualities. :ouch:

Straying off the subject again;

WHBM

My vehicle rarely gets over 75 mph.

So-called congested motorways can actually be clear and Autoroute's maths is pretty poor - surprised you didn't notice it yourself:

If Autoroute are giving Manston to Northampton (town centre presumably) as 153 miles, then even at 70 mph (UK speed limit on A299, M2, M25 and M1) that equates to about 2hrs and 11 minutes.

Quote: "Just over two hours" to the "Northampton area".

Try it yourself.......

Autoroute is ****e as is viamichelin.com and any other computer based route planners....

Manston airport chief sacked

by Trevor Sturgess

PLANESTATION, the owner of Kent International Airport at Manston, has sacked former airport chief executive Geoff Lansbury just days before unveiling its crucial new airline deal.

In a surprise move, Mr Lansbury has been given "gardening" leave until May next year.

Sources close to the company say Mr Lansbury has a contract with one year's notice and he will continue to be paid his £190,000 a year salary until he formally leaves.

His departure is part of a company shakeup by new chief executive Martin May. His colourful predecessor Oliver Iny was ousted in a boardroom coup.

It prompted a group of angry shareholders, Pssilentmajority, to campaign for his reinstatement, to "call the board to account" and to protest about an apparent change in corporate strategy since Mr Iny's departure.

In a statement, PlaneStation said: "The company announces that Mr Lansbury, its property director, has been given notice by the executive board that his employment with the Company will terminate on 4 May 2005. In accordance with the terms of his contract of employment, Mr Lansbury is now on a period of ‘garden leave’.”

Mr Lansbury was involved in early talks with EUJet, the airline that has just unveiled its proposals to use Manston as its UK hub.

Mr Lansbury said in March: "This is a major step forward and highlights the exciting future prospects of Kent International as a dynamic regional airport."

He was also at the airport on February 6 for a groundbreaking ceremony that marked the start of construction of a foodstuffs border inspection post.

Manston is one of only a handful at British airports to have such a facility. Mr Lansbury said it would boost cargo flights and create around 30 new jobs.

He was anxious to play down residents' fears that the increased number of flights will cause more noise, saying the new facility would attract airlines with "quieter" aircraft.

"Although the volume of flights is going up, the disruption will not go up in parallel," he said.

"But we are hoping people will notice a significant decrease in noise disruption."

PlaneStation Group plc ('PlaneStation' or 'the Group')

PLANESTATION GROUP BUYS 30% STAKE IN EU-JETOPS LIMITED

PlaneStation Group plc, the airport and property company, has invested #2
million in cash for a 30 per cent shareholding in EU-JetOps Ltd ('EUjet'), the
Irish-based airline. The purchase follows the announcement in February that
EUjet would become the first provider of scheduled flights from PlaneStation's
Kent International Airport - Manston ('Kent International'). As part of the
agreement, PlaneStation will have the right to appoint a representative to the
Board of EUjet.

EUjet, headed by former Ryanair CEO PJ McGoldrick, has estimated that 500,000
passengers will use Kent International during the first year of operation, which
is forecast to grow to approximately two million passengers by the end of the
airport's third year of operation. The growth will be sustained by offering cost
effective flights to 21 European destinations in the first year.

EUjet will be operating a fleet of seven Fokker 100 aircraft and is currently
negotiating arrangements with other airports intended to form part of the EUjet
route structure. EUjet will appoint Ronald Haylock as Chairman, who has taken a
minority share in the company.

PlaneStation CEO Martin May said: "I believe that this investment represents an
important step forward both for PlaneStation and Kent International. It gives
the Group a substantial stake in a new entrant to the low-cost airline sector
but more importantly gives both Kent International and EUjet a platform to
enable them both to develop their businesses."

Kent International now has all the components essential for a developing
airport, namely a strong catchment area, a solid infrastructure and an anchor
airline providing a broad range of new routes to business and holiday
destinations throughout Europe. With a growing number of air travellers we
believe that Kent International, as well as serving the Kent market, is ideally
positioned to absorb the overspill of passengers from other London airports, and
generate strong ongoing revenues. We are looking forward to working with PJ
McGoldrick and his team as EUjet develops its scheduled services business."

PlaneStation and EUjet are holding a Press Conference on the 20th of May at 9:
30am at County Hall, Maidstone, Kent, where the plans for Kent International
Airport -Manston will be outlined.
