I'm sure all of you read the main forums but just in case this is passing you by - be aware the the Italian national airline is on the brink - not there yet - of some kind of collapse.

Shares have been suspended, parts of the company are in a strike position, the government may or may not intervene to stabilise the company.

Maybe it is a storm in a teacup, maybe the start of a shakedown to a smaller carrier a la Swiss and Sabena or maybe its the start of a total meltdown.

The consequences of Alitalia going under would be significant to the pilot hiring market in the whole of Europe. Lets all keep our fingers crossed that the company emerges out of its present difficuties still needing all its pilots.

Currently there are demands that 200 pilots need to be made redundant. Not a crippling figure. But I hate to think how many pilots they have altogether...

Cheers

I read somewhere that the EU are forbidding the government from bailing AZ out. It doesn't look to good for them. :(
