Hi Andy,
Exactly what I did last year, obtain an FAA CPL/IR that is.
To convert it you need to do the following:
1) Study for the 14 JAR-FCL ATPL Written Exams at an approved training organisation.
2) Pass all of those dreaded 14 JAR-FCL ATPL Exams.
3) Training as required to pass the CPL Skills Test
4) 15 Hours JAA IR course and skills test.
The above assumes you have a FAA CPL/IR Single and Multi ratings.
That'll give you a JAA CPL/IR with ATPL Subjects passed.
All of the requirements are detailed in LASORS.
I'm doing the ATPL Writtens at the moment.
Best of luck,
Charlie Zulu.

Andy, DO NOT RUSH IN. Sorry to yell that, but I rushed over to the US and got all of my ratings from a prestigious university and was then planning to convert. This was pre-JAA, but in retrospect, non-the-less, it would have been wiser for me to carefully research and find a school that offers both JAA/FAA training and get all the ratings at the same time. There are several just do a google.
Good luck in training.

Thanks for the info, ive actually started to think about saving an extra £10000, and start training in the UK instead! Think it might be a better proposition, as im risking everything, and may not recieve what i set out to achieve!
Has any one else used CABAIR? Whats the training program like?
