Virgin poised for Airbus aircraft order

London, , Apr. 28 (UPI) -- Airbus will probably provide fledgling low-cost airline Virgin US several craft for its new fleet, the Financial Times reports.

A final decision could be announced as early as next week.

The deal would mean an inroad for Airbus into Virgin's low-cost airline division. Its other budget airlines, including Virgin Blue in Australia, use Boeing aircraft.

Virgin US, a division of international megacompany Virgin Group based in London, is expected to order as many as 30 airplanes -- a combination of A319 and A320 short-flight aircraft from Airbus. Virgin might buy up to 20 planes and lease 10.

It will also announce the location of its new headquarters, which is expected to be in either San Francisco or Boston.

Airbus President Henri Courpron said during a recent aviation symposium that 100 percent of this year's "single-aisle" plane deliveries in North America were going to low-cost airlines.
