Or not so simple as ABC!

Next month will see a change on the UK roads in the form of new car number plates. The A123 ABC system introduced in 1983 ceases at the end of this month. We can't use the letter "Z" because it looks too much like the number 2.

The new plates have 3 sections:

All new cars bought in September 2001 will be age 51! Why? Would it not be better to start at 01 or even 10 or even 42? Eurobadges are optional, apparently!

If you're thinking of buying a new car maybe this will help:

explains how registrations are broken down into regions and

gives the age of the car.

Yeah - the two digits are for the year - 01 02 etc except you add 50 for the second six months so Sept 2001 becomes 51.

Two digits for the year eh ??? Same on credit cards and just about everything else: it's as though the whole Y2K problem never happened

SLF 999... neither will the current crop of ppl at MOT. So it won't be THEIR problem either! Ahhhh, life is soooo much simpler in Dunnunda! :D

Won't be any cars left by 2049 so they don't need to bother :( :(

All non-treehuggers will be in jail or executed long before that....

I think is the Swiss that issue people with their own car reg number when they pass the test, they have it for the rest of their lives.
Why not do that here,?, it would make it so much easier for us to keep track of you people. ;)

Bugger though drapes if you own more than one car, or a car and a bike more to the point.

Pain in the ar$e too every time you want to borrow a mate's car and have to keep swapping the plates over
