Well Scran's 'Music Quizzes' seem to have such a niche here on PPRuNe that I was thinking about administering a quiz myself to bring out the best in our fellow PPRuNers. . .. .I was thinking a News Quiz. Would probably be similar to the show . . . whereby probably biweekly I could ask about 15 questions in a cryptic / obscure way and then award points for those who get things right, etc.. .. .Or is that too intelligent for Jet Blast? . .. .Would there be sufficient interest in such a venture as to make it worth my while? Or does anybody have any better suggestions for other quizzes/games that they can't be bothered to make but would take part in?. .. . . .SFly

SFly - Thanks for the compliment, and go ahead.. .. .Be warned but, the quiz is difficult to administer in that it takes time to organise, time to administer, and is difficult to set at a level - Look how easy last Music quiz turned out to be.. .. .But you have my vote - go for it!!!!

Hmm, sounds far too intellectual for me Would the items you're quizing us on all be able to be found in The Sun?

It’s interesting that this thread has been started. .I’ve been thinking for a while about a “midweek music quiz” to fill in the gap between scran’s magnificent challenges. But as Kenny quite rightly has pointed out, scran is the only one to run the music quiz. It would be bloody hard to consistently come up with that standard. (I mean that, scranny, honest I do, really, really…). .. .Also for anyone who’s never done this kind of thing before, beware… as scran has said it’s very very hard work. If you are compiling a quiz for a pub quiz night where it’s brain power only, that’s one thing. Doing it for an environment where search engines are available is a whole different game.. .. .Having said all that, I’m prepared to give it a go. Given that music is out, I would suggest that history and/or geography might appeal to the assembled throng. Or perhaps to start with a mix of the two… a histography quiz. With, where possible, an aviation bias.. .. .If there are enough votes for this (2 will do….) I will try to compile something to start the week after next, say posting on a Wednesday (to separate it from scran’s) at around midday UTC (GMT, Zulu, UHT) to give the non-aus a better chance.. .. .Whaddya think?. .. .JH. .. .PS. .. .MS - don’t even bother. .FlyingForFun – no.

Well thanks for the feedback guys; I am aware of the implications and work level of doing such a thing . . . I already started compiling the news quiz questions. The 'search engine' thing is kind of void in a news quiz where the questions are encrypted in an odd phrase or obscure meaning, so everyone is welcome to use search engines if they think it will be of any help! . .. .And to those music-quiz lovers and Scran fans, I wouldn't dream of administering a music quiz! . .. .The news quiz would consist of probably 15 questions which are topical from only the week past, which require detailed answers (ie not just 'Tony Blair' but 'Tony Blair has been to . . .'). Points awarded for most detail or analysis, etc. These questions would not just be about major news stories but would also contain more obscure 'human interest' stories to round it out. Then probably 5 'trivia' questions which may or may not have anything to do with the news or anything at all.. .. .It would be posted Friday night (GMT) (so I can make sure it doesn't have any of the content of Radio 4's 'News Quiz' programme! ) and then the answers and scores would be posted when all the questions were successfully completed or the following Friday, whichever is sooner.. .. .The next quiz would then follow either that day or the following Friday (which would make it biweekly).. .. .JH . . . I believe adding the 'trivia' at the end would make the quiz also oriented 'at the throng' even more.. .. .First quiz should go up Friday!. .. .SFly
