Dear All,

I am in a bit of a dilema.

I currently work for VA. However, have been offered a job with bmed. A franchise of BA.

I love flying so much. however the money at VA is not to god. As I have my own house and bills etc.

If any one could shed any light on British Med that would be so great.

Promotion at VA is not to good.

Is they money any good at B'med. Have heard lots of good things about them and heard promotion is rather good?!?

Any help would be great i am so confused about the whole thing. In a way I wish I never went for the interview.

I do like virgin I think they are great to work for. Just a shame about the money. However, the routes at Bmed seem interesting and may be an option not to be missed.

Thank you in anticipation for your replys.

:ok: x.x.x.

Hi Virgin 82,

Well in response i currently work for Bmed and can tell you it is a great little company to work for. It does have its faults and also as you can tell from the other forums some unhappy crew but you tell me an airline that doesn't.

Bmed is not for everyone though. If you want nice beach destinations to stay at we are not the company. We fly to alot of countries with very different cultures which you have to respect. e.g Iran, Syria etc etc

We also spend alot of time away. At the moment we only have 8 days off in the UK however the union is trying to change this. We can also do a 4 day trip come back and go away again for a 3 day trip. Hard work!

However the company is still fairly small so you always know most of your crew, everyone gets on. We have the greatest crew parties around and lets face it you need to staying in the places we stay! and the money is good. CC bring home approx £1300 - 1600 a month.

If your happy keeping your head down and ready to party when your away then Bmed is definately the place. But if you just like staying in your hotel room and not socialising, you will soon loose the plot!

Hope this helps.

List the pros and cons of the company you are in.
Then list the pros and cons of the new company (ppruners will help you with this!). But base it on facts you have not biased rumours.
Consider pay, base location, destinations, rosters, benefits, prospects, uniform, etc...

There was a reason you wanted to leave where you are, hence why you applied for another job in the first place. Bear that in mind. Those issues are unlikely to change in the near future.

If the new job will solve the negative issues you have with your current job, and not provide more problems or issues in your life, then go for it!

BMed in my opinion is professional and well structured with a good reputation. They will still be there in a year if you want to hang about and see how it goes where you are.

Good luck with your decision, I'm sure you'll make the right one.

Thank you so much for you replies!

Really helps. Just very hard sometimes, the grass looks greener, but at times it is just a different shade.

Happy Landings! :O

I urge you strongly to really think about this one. you may arrive and your face will not fit! you will earn 1600 only if you work out of rank or very friendly with rostering. coming from VS this may not be the case. you will be the envy of alot of people. get youreslf to easyjet then come over to this show, it will earn you a stepping stone on the fast track ladder! take a look at the other Bmed forums on this site. please please please think about it. the management really are as dreadfu as people say.

i currently work for VS too. Unless its doing longhaul thats getting you down, i would really rethink this.

I came from 9 years of shorthaul to VS and its the best thing ive ever done. VS crew have it very easy and i dont care what anyone else says. The people who tend to moan have no other airline experience. We do approx 5 trips a month, great destinations, incredible flexibility to swap/change our flights whenever we want. (i dont know of any other airline that offers this).
Our pay is not that bad if you think of the amount of hours we fly and our perks are fantastic....Promotion is also not as slow as you make out...So please really have a good think about this decision.

Good luck!

vast - Thank goodness for your post. At last a long-haul cc who admits that 'it's easy', and you reckon the money aint bad. Makes me sick that the BA mob moan about their lot. They REALLY have it easy.

I don't want to turn this forum post into a debate on airline versus airline and who has it easier, that is going on in another thread with nearly 300 posts already! (see Attention BA Staff & Shareholders in the Rumours&News forum).

I agree with you that its great to hear vasts' comment on being happy. The more the merrier.

But.....

I ask please that you consider that the longer a company has been in business, and the larger they are, the more moaning you'll get. BA is still employing people taken on in the 70's, and in over 30 years, contracts have been offered at different salaries as the aviation markets have changed. Quality of life onboard has changed and so too have the perks, the rostering and the future security. Its inevitable there is going to be more complaints in BA staff, than within airlines which have managed their stability over a shorter business life.

Your comment may be true and I understand where youre coming from, but I feel its an unfair measure.

Hey,

Please dont get me wrong. The money is not bad for the hours we do. I agree with you.

I think I am a little bored and a bit lonely if I am honest. Thought BMED would be a bit smaller and could make friends and more social.

I have flown before for a BA franchise. I loved it, yeah it is hard work but was small base and friendly, think that is what I miss.

I suppose we all have our good days and bad!

Thank you for your ideas/comments :ok:

sixmilehighclub - OK, fair enough. But you miss my point, so let me re-arrange my words for better clarity. They, (BA long-haul), REALLY have it easy, and they still moan about their lot.

Virgin 82 - you are doing the right thing ie, plenty of research, then make a decision.

I currently work for a big airline having worked for a much smaller one, and I can assure you that
Thought BMED would be a bit smaller and could make friends and more social.
Is not generally true. I mean that maybe the atmosphere in BMed is more friendly (don' know anything about), but it sure doesn't depend on the size of the airline. It was not in my case, that is for sure. And remember that in a smallish, atmosphere can become suffocating at times.
