Hi,

I attended the the virgin selection centre in November last year, and like your friend I to was very nervous.

The first thing to say is that it was actually a thoroughly enjoyable experiance, and whilst they do put you through a couple of group execises there is no singing involved (as I'd be told that there would be) so you really can just relax and enjoy the day.

Essentially the day is slpit in two with the morning being a group interview scenario, and the afternoon being reserved for one to one interviews with those that make it past the earlier stages.

We all met in reception and were then escorted upstairs to a group interview room. There were two assessors, both male cabin crew members, who introduced themselves and then explained a bit about how the day would work.

Then they kicked off with an ice breaker which in our case bagan by us placing a peice of flip chart paper on the wall, writing our name on it , and then preceeding to run round the room grabbing anyone we could, and asking them random questions i.e jelly or ice cream?

These answers were then written on that persons bit of paper, so that by the end of the exercise (about 10 minutes) there was series of random silly answers written on each persons bit of paper.

Next they let us sit down again and gave each person a card with some typed text on it. Basically each card provided a bit of info about Virgins operations. Each person then had to read their card in turn, providing the assessors with an opportunity to see that you can actually read, whilst also imparting some basic info to the group.

At the end of that exercise you get to relax for a bit while they talk you through the life of a cabin crew member, covierng things such as working hours / patterns, wages and annual leave arrangements. Then they give each person the opportunity to ask questions.

Next they spit the group in two and provide you with a scenario. Basically each group represents a team of cabin crew, whose plain has been grounded on an Island due to bad weather. They explain that you will be grounded for the next 5 hours and that you have to entertain the passangers during this time. The in flight entertainments system is off line and no one may leave the aircraft.

Ok so next they give each group a pack of about 10 cards each of which has a picture of a different objact on it. Each group is then given 15 minutes to consider what thay could utilise each object for i.e how can you use it to entertain people.

Finally each group has to present their planned entertainment programme to the other group, who now adopt the role of passengers.

Once thats all over and done with they split you into smaller groups of about three to four, and ask you to discuss some generic questions with each other. i.e why do you want to work for Virgin? The assessors move round each group listening to the converstaion and asking their own questions when they feel like it.

Follwing that exercise they got us all back togeather, thanked us for attending and explained that they were now going to make 'some decisions'. Everyone was then sent out of the room and left to sit around for 20 minutes or so.

Eventually a woman appeared and called 27 out of the 30 back into the room, leaving myself and two others to wait outside. She then called us in and explaine that we had been successful and that everyone else had been sent home!!

Ok if you make it this far you are then required to sit a maths and English test. both of which are timed For the English test you are required to read a page of information and the to answer true or false questions based upon the information which you have previously read.

For the maths test you are required to answer 12 questions in 10 minutes. The questions cover muliplication division, addition and subtraction, and you are required to get six out of 12 correct.

I'm ashamed to admit that I failed this test and so didn't make it pass that point, however If I had been successful I would have progressed to the final stage which is a one to one interview.

I belieeve that they then write to you a week or so later with the result.

I hope this is of some use, and please wish your friend luck on my behalf.

Kind regards,

Hey there, I used to work for Virgin and the process is still the same. The interview (2-1) however, only lasted about 15 minutes. Q's such as

1)3 words to describe yourself, both good and bad (3 each) (positive inti a negative. (exp: not very good with money

2)Customer service Q's (define customer service etc)

3)Feelings about being away for long periods.

4)Situation where you have had a problem with a Supervisor/manager. How was it resolved? How did you feel? The idea of this one is to turn a negative into a positive. Never slag a team member off!!! Just say that you asked if anything was wrong and tried to establish the problem before it got any worse.

Good luck with the interview.
