Did a Microsoft Windows Update a while ago and it came up with Microsoft.Net update under Windows XP updates. Do I need this? Talks about developers etc. Any ideas?

You do not need the .Net Framework if you do not want to install it.

You only need it if you're using one of the .NET application such as VisualStudio.Net.
