MUMBAI: Indian Airlines has its first woman check pilot for Airbus A320 aircraft.
Capt Sangita K Bangar, a commander of Indian Airlines, with over 8,000 flying hours, including 5,000 hours as a commander, has become the first woman check pilot for Airbus A320.
Capt Sangita, who is 39, joined the airline in 1988 as a co-pilot on Boeing 737 and got her command on the twin engined jet in 1996, an IA official said here on Wednesday.
She later became the first woman pilot to be trained in India on an A320, the official added.
Capt Sangita will be instrumental in carrying out route checks for licence renewal, pilot-in-command and performance monitoring and LOFT (Line Oriented Flying Training) for co-pilots
Indian Aviation and Indian women have come a long way, but this is just another of the firsts women in Indian aviation have been scoring with amazing regularity
On June 13, 1999 Capt. Nivedita Bhasin became the airline's first woman check pilot on the A300.
Interestingly Indian Airlines also employed the first commercial woman pilot in the world Ms. Durbha Bannerjee who went on to become the world's first woman pilot in May 1987
