The cause of the high accident rate in G.A. is very obvious. It is because of the very high numbers of low time pilots, and pilots who do not want to be there. And the atrocious negative attitude of so many of the pilots who are there. Nearly all accidents are caused by the actions of people. And most accidents (not all) happen to pilots with less than 5000 hours. So the solution is simple. Stop using outback G.A. as a training ground for qantas pilots. We want capable, experienced professionals, who are going to stay, and are interested, not a flood of beginners who are a liability. But this will not change while CASA is working for QANTAS, and all our regulators are city slickers who live on the coast. where the ripoff flying schools are.

The flood of wannabies has started a lot of el cheapo operations that are not sustainable if you maintain decent standards, facilities, wages and conditions.
On the NAS issue. There are about 11000 civil aircraft on the register, and only a few hundred are involved in scheduled airservices. The others need room to fly freely so our economy can develope. We cannot reserve most of the airspace for a select few. I am confident that our airline and commuter pilots are not the short sighted lot that they appear to be. It seems that their vision is quite good when they fly oversesas.
