Not sure if this is the correct forum for this but here goes----

Which uses more per passenger mile:

a transatlantic air crossing on a reasonably full aircraft or a journey by car by a single person?

This is to do with a conversation I am having at work so it's not really important ,but I would appreciate some feedback. Thanks very much in advance.

This is all very approximate.

747-400 uses 2813 gal per hour (source BA)
so to new york approx 7 hours = 19691
with 409 passengers = 48.1 gal per passenger
at approx 3500 miles = 72 mpg
