Can someone please explain to me the taxation system in Malaysia. I was told the first 6mths was taxed at 29% then it went down to 15%. Does this sound right?

Also, could people please post some of the companies that run turbo-props.

Yip you are correct on the tax thing, but you will get a refund for the excess 15 per cent you pay for six months, so look at it as a savings scheme !

Is that a local-worker tax rule or an expatriate one? Last info I discovered regarding expats is 28% flat tax rate (the current top bracket) and no reliefs applicable/allowable.

Well, the companies that operate turboprops in malaysia are:

1) Berjaya Air with Dash7s
2) Sabah Air with 1 KingAir 200, 1 Nomad N22, 1 BN2T
3) HornBill Skyways with Dornier 228s
4) Layang Layang with Nomad N22, Antonov ?? and 1 Skyvan
5) Pan Malaysia Air Transport with 1 Shorts Skyvan
6) Malaysia Airlines with F50s & DHC6s

Pardon my ignorance mate, but could you please be a little more explicit. Even my employer doesn't know what the rate is supposed to be (supposedly max) and an ex-MAS captain I've met left the company owing RM48K to the IRD in back taxes after 5 or so years of flying.

Thumbs Up posted on another thread that Transmile do not hire expats, well his is wrong. There are many expats working in Transmile both on the ground and in the air. It is an excellent company to work for and an expanding one as there are strong indications that their fleet is about to be expanded to either DC10 or B747-200 before years end.

1. Wages - Capt - RM 8000.00/mth
FO - RM 4000.00/mth

2. Alwnces - Capt - RM 35.00/hr
FO - RM 25.00/hr
nightstop - Domestic - RM 80.00/night
Overseas - RM 160.00/night

3. Aircraft (jet fleet) - The youngest is about 20 yrs old with lots of ADD stickers (read as poorly maintained but met the minimum standard for despatch with nego between capt & management).

4. Medical benefits - Peanuts ....

5. Insurances - Loss of Licence is about RM 250,000.00

6. Roster - Keep changing every 2 days is you are lucky !!!

7. Choice of hotel - Probably is slightly better than Motel 6 or Backpackers.

8. ID travel - An alien term to them.

9. Travel benefits - EY class only (if you have to do your 727 sim in MEL by the cheapest mean of transportation - if Air Asia flies fm KUL-MEL, probably that is the choice).

10. Everything is negotiable in this company !!!

Dear Speedtwoten,

1. I wonder where did you hear about DEC on B737 classic as MAS does not have any B737 classic except -400. If you consider 734 is classic then it may be true.

2. DEC on B734 will never happen to LOCALS at least until the next century simply because LOCALS are second class pilots except their cadets. Although MAS used to open its door before for DEC on B734, it created a big huu-haa between MAPA/management and I doubt it will happen again.

3. If you are an expat, then it is possible, however, (rumours only....) you will have to go through employment agencies, owned by few management or senior pilots who will take commissions from your salary. How far this rumour is true, I guess you have to find out yourself.

4. Just for your info, there are more than 2,000 Malaysian ATPL holders in Malaysia (fig from MDCA) but almost 25% of them (total no. of MAS pilots is about 1200 + assuming 300 work for Air Asia and Transmile) are not good enough even to fly a Twin-Otter.

5. That will probably support the rumour in para 3, create some shortage of pilots, employ some expat through cronies agencies and make some money out of it.

UNBELIEVEABLE ???? BELIEVE IT ....... because this is "BOLEHLAND" ......:cool:

Hi Papee,

I'm afraid that I don't have an accurate info about Air Asia but as a guide, Transmile is anytime better (B727 fleet) than Air Asia in term of monthly gross income both for Capt and FO. If you refer to my previous posting, I have stated how much a Capt and FO are getting every month. In term of life style, probably Air Asia is slightly better but well, it depends a lot on individual.

Promotionwise - Both Transmile/Air Asia need at least 4000 hrs total and probably at least 1000 company hours. If you are looking at an average of 700 hrs/year, then it will probably take about 4-5 yrs to command, depending on your present flying hours.

Anyway, my advise is, get the job and get your command hours ASAP. Once you are marketable, look for a better place to enhance your career.

Kwaiyai, I don't know about you but FYI, I am so used to both hotels that you mentioned until others are considered yuckiies ....
