Dont know if anyone out there can help, but basically im working as cabin crew - but am still after a year not enjoying it. Ive wanted to work as ground crew for ages, as i still like the industry, though only problem is hardly any airlines are recruiting ground staff at the mo. BMI are but i dont fancy them too much and the only other airline at heathrow is south african airways. I want to apply but their website only seems to be advertising for cabin crew?? I found out about their job vacancy through an aviation jobs website but i dont wanna apply online - so is there anyone out there that has a phone number for them? The phone number on south africans website is an international number only. Please help, i need a change now.:bored:

try calling directory enquiries. ask for the main london number. you will need to speak to jill beck, personnel manager. they normally start you off as part time ground staff, they prefer previous check-in experience, but this was about 8 years ago. they are a nice bunch to work for, the money is good, concessions not bad either. i have fond memories of my time there. only reason i left them was to start flying. and i still, 7 years after i left them, will still pop in to say hello if i'm paxing through heathrow. normally 2 earlies (meeting the morning arrivals then 2 lates, mostly checkin in boarding, flight connections etc) its much more varied than flying but can be hard hard work, but if you fancy a change then good luck. pm me if you need any more info.

OSB,

If you register on www.aviationjobsearch.com you can apply directly thru them by uploading your CV for any ground jobs that come up.

There has been a spate of airlines employing ground staff notably Emirates, Cathay Pacific, Virgin, SAS, American.... these have all been in the skyport newspaper if you are in a position to get hold of one. (Normally dotted around staff areas in LHR/LGW. The ads normally have a local email contact as the main websites for the foreign airlines normally cater for international positions.

I hear Cathay may be recruiting again due U.S. routes. American(who also do contract handling) and SAA are both on aviation job search.

As chicken T says they normally want previous exp.

Try this for SAA HR: [email protected]

Or you could try one of the Handling agents (if you dare)!

Good luck

WTD

Theres a new airline starting up Ettihad or something similar op to the middle east out of LHR T3 being checked in by SAS but checkin is much much less than flying and your unlikely to get into ticketing with no experience but its possible to work your way up, also try BA jobs website and skyport there always useful.Flying can be very very boring as ive experienced especially 'downroute' good luck anyway
