Job situation

Hi guys,

Planning to go to the states next month to do the FAA Dispatcher course, and was looking for any info on possible Ops jobs in the North West area (Manc, L,pool etc.) for when I return.

Now I have read a lot of threads stating that the license doesn't do anything for you in the UK, but the fact that I don't have any previous civil airline experience (I left the RAF last year after 22yrs, Air Traffic Controller) gaining the license must surely make me more marketable than not having any civil ops quals.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am really keen on returning to the aviation world.

If you havent already done so, contact the RFEA, they have branches throughout the uk and work hard to redeploy ex forces.

Try sites such as aviationjobsearch.com and flightinternational.com. There are often jobs on there which ask for minimal experience as ops assistants, mainly in ops and crewing. It is likely you will need some CAA or JAR ops knowledge tho. Try the CAA website for some pointers, maybe even call them to compare costs of UK and US courses.

It might be worthwhile applying to ground service companies like Servisair. You may have to start off on check-in and work your way through the ranks, but if you get into a small enough airport, you can expect to progress quicker. Do check they have their own dispatch teams tho before settling in.

Another thought, universities often loook for specialist tutors, i beleive the london university is recruiting now. See aviationjobsearch.com under company vacancies.

Unfortunately there is very little FAA licencing which can be converted to be CAA acceptable as they work on different ethics and law, but if you can spare the time and money, go for it, it shows willing and will give you more knowledge.
