In a recently completed study of the performasnce of NZ Universities, Massey and Lincoln are at the bottom of the list.
Nuf said. (At least Lincoln isn't trying to teach people to fly!!)

According to the 2003 world rankings, Massey is second only to Auckland uni (in NZ of course!):hmm:
Where are these latest findings nzer?

It all makes sense if the country's so small you've only got three universities!!!;)

1.See "NZ Herald" front page 20/3/04.

2.And yes, NZ is a small country - we get it OK !! - that notwithstanding, there are 7 Universities. The top have been ranked with the UK "Oxbridge" Universities.

this reminds me.....

In the early 80's I was doing the senior commercial theory subjects with Wally+Andy in Motueka (NAC course 36).....on one morning coffee break we were watching and listening to 2 massey aircraft on a cross country navex and joining for a touch and go on the frosty grass strip.

1st aircraft floats and touches down 1/2 way and manages to perform a skidding turn to stop on the taxiway next to the fence (touch and go aborted? ), 2nd aircraft is short short short final.....touches down and bounces once twice thrice 4 times 5 times...running out of runway quick....goes to full power and becomes airbourne with the main wheels clearing the fence by about 3 feet...passes UNDER the phone wires across the road and "skims" across the top of the apple orchards (where coincidently a C185 had come to rest a few months earlier).....before making a low level circuit and calling 119.1 "tracking for christchurch"

I can still remember seeing a croud of people (probably the whole school) suddenly appear in front of me , all running like mad to the far end of the field......

much stunned and wide eyed expressions followed by a lecture from wally about going around and decision making and handling wet runways etc etc

visiting massey aircraft thereafter prompted a stampede to the windows and the judging of approach / landing by every one in attendance.

Dash8,
Im not going to jump to Masseys defence but thier flight training did not come into existance until the 1990's.

Dash8driver, reminds me of a story of a F27 getting visual with 05 in Auckland and landing a couple of hundred yards short.

Your point is?

I would have thought that Waikato would be a far bigger worry than Massey with the current watering down of it's degrees to keep the odd Maori happy and the resulting damage to it's reputation.

really ?

I remember massey offering business or arts degrees with CPL/IR back in early to mid 80's.

Im quite sure their aviation program was steaming along by 1985.

no point really ,

just a memory that sprang to mind when the "massey" word was mentioned.

I'll promptly retract any post that hurts the feelings of massey students past and present :ooh:

I worked at Massey in 1988 which I believe, was it's second or third year of operation - So, 1986 would most likely have been the earliest it started operating.

Fark!

I had always been under the impession it began when the Massey/Flightline thing happened. (Admittedly before my time.)

for those that went thru massey in the early 90's that were lucky enough to land the 'internship' with Garuda it would have been very 'nice' and would've warranted the $60-$70k back then...dunno if u could justify it now tho...
knew a few guys from auckland that have never looked back...
