Well I have gone and done it and stuffed up my pc after trying to be smart.

I have been swapping HDD's on my pc so that I can install XP onto the nice shiny new one. Put the old one back into the pc so that I could burn all my data onto dvd and about 30 secs after windows 98se loads up and goes into the desktop screen with all the icons loaded the pc freezes up.

Now I am thinking that it is an application that loads up in the "background" after windows is loaded that could be causing the pc to freeze and its nothing hardware related. eg: NAV, Zone Alarm, Internet Sweeper etc?

Any thoughts or ideas? Boot into safe mode and uninstall each one by one until the pc is working alright? Or is there some sort of diagnostic programme that I can run that will tell me what is causing the problem.

Cheers

onehunga,

Have the WinXP Hard Drive as Primary Master, and put the Win98 Hard Drive on the Secondary Master. (You can leave the Optical Drive off the Secondary Ribbon.)

Then just boot into WinXP, and you can transfer your data Hard Drive to Hard Drive.

Take Care,
